Very, VERY disappointed in this camera. Our iPhones take vastly better focused pictures with better dynamic range, even with their tiny lenses. Trying the different metering modes and other options has little effect on improving the absolutely terrible focusing performance. Sometimes more than half the pictures in a sequence are out of focus. We had 2 of the fabulous PowerShot SD1000 7.1 MPixel, 3x zoom, aluminum body cameras for many years before hard, daily and travel use finally did them in. Although with a lower pixel count, they outdid this piece of mediocrity by a long shot. Those old Elphs were purchased, on sale, at about the same price point many years ago. How can a much more recent product have such inferior performance???

The silver camera does not have all the updated software, but the red ELPH 180 does. Buy the red one!

The battery worked for 1 weekend now it swells up whenever I charge it. I havent gotten the opportunity to comment on the actual camera due to not being able to turn it on

Ive owned a lot of these small point and shoot cameras in my lifetime, and this is in my top two favorite. I am very pleased at the quality of picture this one produces. I love the simple options the camera has, and the simple explanations included on the camera, which make a switch to different modes very easy. Truthfully, Ive never looked into the options that my cameras have; I just leave everything on auto. But the simple explanations which are displayed when you turn on the "help" mode make the options easy to navigate. After fifteen years of using this type of camera, I finally have one where I feel confident changing the settings to increase quality of picture. I still usually leave it on "auto," though, and the quality is much better than most Ive experienced. The camera is very lightweight and compact, fitting better into my purse than most Ive owned. I just took a 6-day vacation in which I took over 800 pictures, and I only had to recharge the included battery one time on day four. Plus, its cute because its red. The only reason I didnt give this camera five stars is because the processing time is very slow though. The picture takes a couple seconds to process, thereby making it difficult to snap a couple pictures in quick succession.

I just dont like taking pictures with my phone, so wanted to replace an older Canon digital camera. Got this based on the price and what I read in other reviews. Have taken quite a few pictures with it on several vacations (mostly scenery) and am quite pleased. It is easy to use, the zoom is all I need for my vacation pictures. Battery life is great, love the color--lightweight, easy to use. As long as it continues to hold up, I will be very pleased I chose this camera.

This is a great little camera that takes nice photos. I bought it to replace an similar older Canon camera which I had for 7 years. The new Elph 180 camera is very similar to my old one and I could use my old USB transfer cable and I now have a spare battery (from my old camera). I agree with other reviewers that its bothersome that Canon doesnt include a USB cable with this camera. And I also agree with other reviewers that it really is hard to rig up the wrist string because the hole for the loop is so tiny. My old camera had a metal body and I was worried that the plastic body of the new Elph 180 would be fragile. But, it seems to be pretty sturdy. So, overall, Im pretty happy with this new camera. Ive been using it for 2 months now and it works great.

We recently visited Rocky Mountain National Park with the grandkids. One was trying to take photos with a V-Tech kiddie camera. One was taking photos with her hand-me-down Apple phone. The quality of the kiddie camera photos was very poor. The camera phone photos were poor quality and hard to view or download. We let them take turns using our backup ELPH and they had a wonderful time, took a few nice shots, and made great strides as photographers just with a little fooling around. The ELPH is so intuitive, the auto setting is so nice, the anti-shake is so effective, and the view screen is so big that this turned out to be a very newbie friendly camera. Dont underestimate the beauty of digital. You could burn off the cost of this camera in film and developing on a normal film camera in one family vacation. This baby will hold a few thousand high quality digital photos on a normal, (say 16 GB), memory card. Thats a lot of pictures of the inside of a backpack, hands, feet, the rear end of the family dog, birds, ants and Moms elbow. But among those will be a few really nice candid photos of the family at play, and I have to say we had the best time in front of the computer monitor looking at all of the easily uploaded photos. The camera is solid and will take a fair amount of reasonable abuse. The wrist strap is flimsy, but saves the occasional accident. After a few minutes of instruction and practice the kids were naturals with the camera. Over the course of a few days the quality of the photographs, in terms of composition, choice of zoom, framing, and the like, improved dramatically. This turned in to a great family activity, and got the kids totally invested in the vacation. It helped them to learn how to look and to see. And the operation of the camera never got in the way. So, its beyond dispute that, technically, this is a fine product. But moreover, in terms of value for cost as a useful thing to own, this was a worthwhile and rewarding purchase. Please note that I bought this item for my family with my own real cash money.

Ive bought maybe 20 of these cameras over the years for my company. They are cheap and get the job done for building inspections. Very simple to use and durable.

Bought as a birthday gift for my mother, who prefers point and shoot cameras to cell phone ones. And I cant blame you, even though new phones have pretty competitive cameras. She is a Canon fan and her old cam was dropped just too many times so the zoom lens would not come out. This one was a hit. Bright red color is so important for the ladies. Zoom is good, Resolution is great and picture quality is out of this world. Slim enough to carry in ladies purse.Battery lasts a while, so please make sure your SD card is large enough to accomodate all the GB of data. Menu is extensive, but once you read the manual and memorize a few things, it is not that bad. Super happy

I have returned this camera. I bought it as a replacement for my old Powershot SD1200. I take a lot of bird photos, and the SD1200s maximum 3x optical zoom is inadequate for this purpose. Unfortunately, even though the Elf 180 has an 8x optical zoom, every photo I took at 8x turned out to be fuzzy. I am positive it is the optical zoom causing the problem, because I had turned digital zoom off in the settings. (Digital zoom photos are even fuzzier.) I subsequently bought a more expensive camera, which has not yet been delivered. I was going to keep the Elf 180 anyway, for travel use. But then I realized that for non-bird photos, my old SD1200 takes photos that are as good (or better) than does the Elf 180, and also has more user-friendly controls. For example, the SD1200 has a macro button on the camera, whereas the Elf 180 forces users to drill down through a series of menus to reach that function.
