This is a great MACRO lens. Ive using it for a week with excellent results. AF is good but the best i like about this lens is the VC. Excellent low light pictures.

First, if you buy this lens you MUST get the Tamron Tap-in Console. There is a firmware update that corrects issues with slow focusing and improves the VC (Image Stabilization) even further. The lens will still work without the Tap-in console and update, but I am suggesting that you buy them together or make plans on purchasing the Tap-In Console as soon as you can. This lens is simply INCREDIBLE. Im usually a Canon junky, all Canon lenses. However, I decided to finally try a 3rd party lens after being disappointed with the 100mm f/2.8L from Canon. There is a serious benefit to buying from the little guy, they gotta work harder to win your business. This lens is an L quality lens, the glass is sharp, zero chromatic aberrations, zero flare, zero ghosting, incredibly stabilization, and you save $150 for a far superior product. Im not going to go as far to say Tamrons newer SP series trumps in every focal length, but this 90mm is hands down the only lens that is worth your time and money in the 85mm-105mm range. I will say that I am even considering selling my canon 85mm f/1.8, yes its a faster lens, but the VC (image stabilization) makes up for the f-stop difference. I can shoot at 1/13th shutter speed and have a tack sharp image. While using my Canon 85mm 1.8 I usually have to stay above 1/40-1/60 to be sharp, but might just be a shaky mess to begin with. As far as macro capability, I attached some sample photos, its important to remember this lens doubles as a portrait lens as well as a 1:1 macro.

Extremely happy with this lens on a Nikon D750 & D810. I primarily use the lens for fashion, product, and portrait work. I automatically calibrated the lens with Reikan FoCal Pro 2 and Tamrons TAP-in dock, needless to say, it is as sharp as it can be. The VC is fantastic and the AF is extremely fast and accurate on my D750 and D810. Havent seen any chromatic aberration or fringing to speak of. I rented the Nikon 105mm Macro for comparison (also calibrated with Reikan FoCal Pro 2) and found my Tamron to be a bit sharper and focus slightly faster than the Nikon. Tamron has a firmware update for their new SP line of 90 Macro, 85mm, 45mm, and 35mm as of 4 months ago. Again, you need the TAP-in dock to install this update. If I remember correctly, the firmware improves the VC and AF speed. The Tamron Tap-In-Console For Nikon, Black is $60 on Amazon so it is a no brainer. After 4 months of use I have no cons or regrets, the 90 is simply superb for food, fashion, beauty, product and portrait work. Plan on spending extra time in Photoshop fixing dust specks and imperfections on product photography and healing/cloning portrait skin blemishes, the amount of detail this lens records is simply brutal. My next lens purchase will be Tamrons 45mm.

Im a hobbyist and using this on a 6D. Overall, I really enjoy shooting this and I think it fills the gap really well between the 24-70s and 70-200s. Pros: - Great construction. It is hefty but not heavy, - The body feels durable and doesnt scuff or show finger prints easily - The buttons/switches are tactile and securely snap into position. - Minimum Focusing distance allows for great Macro-ish shots. - "Vibration Control" is probably the best that I have in all my gear, including; my red rings. - Auto Focusing is fast and quiet. Manual focusing is incredibly smooth. Cons: - Focusing can wander and the AF distance switch can be a hassle. Ive found myself manually adjusting to get close in darker situations and then using back button to "check" or correct. - The lens hood and cap dont have enough clearance, so I find myself knocking off the cap when trying to remove the hood (minor inconvenience).

Terrific lens on the new Nikon D500. Very sharp, auto focuses quickly and quietly, and shows very little noticeable chromatic aberration, much less any distortion at typical apertures. Have a hard time understanding the complaints about no f2.8 in macro at under 20 ft. Who would want the razor thin depth of field at a closer distance. My macros were stunning but taken at f5.6.

I found this lens to work very well on my Nikon D750. It focuses much faster than my Nikon lens some of this might be attributed to the different type of lens. This one is a prime lens or single focal length while the Nikon lens (28-300) is a extended range zoom. It is noticeably sharper than to Nikon 105mm macro I tried but you have to pixel peep to see the difference. But on a macro lens that is a important difference. BTW Dxomark also rate the Tamron as sharper 26 P-Mpix for the Tamron 21 P-Mpix for the Nikor. I think it focused faster than the Nikon 105mm too but I didnt get to compare them back to back, so I am less certain about this statement. Please dont think I am bashing Nikon Im not. Just in this case the Tamron seems to be a better choice it is cheaper and has a longer warranty (6 years) vs Nikors "Nikkor lenses come with a standard one year USA limited warranty + a 4 yr. USA Extended Service Coverage for a total of 5 yrs of protection" not sure what the 4 yr USA extended Service Coverage covers.and it out performs the Nikor lens in sharpness and maybe focusing speed. I highly Recommend this lens

This lens is almost perfection. I have always loved the 85/90mm focal length as my normal lens (Im an introvert). The problem has always been the very limited focusing distance on the typical 85mm, especially since they are touted as "portrait" lenses. Head and shoulders, thats it with the focusing distance on most 85mm lenses, Nikons stellar 1.8 and 1.4, included. I owned both of them, as well as the 105mm Nikkor macro 2.8 in both the latest version and manual focus. I liked being able to focus closely, but could never warm up to the 105 as a portrait lens or landscape lens. I owned a Tamron 90mm back in Pentax film days and loved it, but sold it when I went to Nikon. Last year I jumped the Nikon lens ship and bought the Tamron 45mm. I was so impressed with it, I started looking at other Tamron optics, saved the pennies and bought the 90mm after doing much research. Having had bad experiences with Sigma lenses, I was reluctant to try a third-party optic. I almost bought the Tamron dock, but I am happy to say that, at least on my D750, focus is spot on with both lenses right out of the box. The bokeh is creamy on this 90mm, the focusing zippy and the sharpness delightful. I am more than satisfied with this lens and doubt if Ill ever buy another Nikkor lens after experiencing the superior performance (SP) of the Tamron line. However, I feel my needs are largely covered by the Nikkor 24mm f/1.8 and the Tamron 45 and 90 lenses for 90 percent of what I do. The balance is great on the D750 and, for the most part, they work flawlessly. I did have a moment when the D750 would not fire and went into err mode with the Tamron on it. Swapped out batteries and took the lens off, but still no good. Put a Nikkor on, worked. Put the Tamron back on, and it worked the rest of the day. The D750 I have has been notorious for this, so I dont chalk it up to the lens but the electronics in the camera. The stabilization on this lens is great, but remember it wont do a thing for a moving subject. That is where an f/2 would really help. Im dreaming of a Tamron 135 f/1.8 to go up against the Sigma Art lens. That is the other focal length I love shooting with, but, again, the focusing distance has never been close enough to satisfy me. My Zeiss 135 f/2 really shines, but only when I can hit focus!

Pros: - Excellent sharpness, colors/contrast - Solid build/nice quality Cons: - Price compared to first party lens - Some major focus hunting The cons are the reason why I cannot enthusiastically recommend this lens. On the Fleabay you can get a Canon 100mm L Macro for $750 with a ton of assessories. Also, considering the resale value on a Canon this is a no-brainer. The Canon focuses faster and can lock in with low light without hunting. This lens is very sharp but it hunts as much as the older 60mm macro version (also made by Tamron). I love Tamrons zoom lenses but Ive always had issues with their macro lenses. I may be done with Tamrons macro lenses, or Ill just be quicker to return within the 30 day return period.

Okay. I normally dont take the time to write reviews but I just need to send high praises to this lens. I absolutely love it. Razor sharp doesnt even begin to describe the resolving power of this lens. This is my first third party lens as I am a Nikon faithful. I have had a friends 105mm for more than a year and after returning it to her I decided that I would give this piece of glass a try. When I got it I attached a 12mm extension tube and a speedlight w/ softbox and went outside. THIS GLASS DID NOT DISAPPOINT.

Had this lens before when I had my Nikon D750 and loved it. So when I went mirrorless i knew this was going to be on my shopping list. Then I bought the EOSR mirrorless. Yes I know all the bad about it ok I got it. So I got this lens again and hooked it to the canon EF-ESO R adapter and works like a charm. I think it focuses better then it did with my nikon. This is a incredible lens not just for macro work but, as well as other things as well. I used it to take some family pics and they are so sharp.
