I love Zeis lenses, I really think this was a great choice as a first lens, Its probably my imagination but I feel some of the shots I take with this thing have an incredible warmth and depth. I use this daily with my Sony Alpha A7II it is an amazing combination.

Let me start out by saying Im an amateur photographer. Bought this lens to go with my Sony A7II, and what a combo! For the most part I take landscape photos, and this lens is just what I needed! I imagine it will be ions before I switch to a new lens. While I did feel it was on the pricey side, I was willing to sacrifice and Im glad I did. This Zeiss prime lens does not disappoint. PROS: - Amazing bokeh - Crisp, clear images - Light weight - Prime lens CONS: - Price

I absolutely love this lens. Its small and light and has amazing Image Quality especially when stopped down a little. The Bokeh is nice even though f2.8 is a tad slow. People will complain about the cost but honestly this lens is absolutely incredible. The only lenses that will have as good IQ and not be absolutely massive are either higher end Leica lenses or the old Contax g mount Carl Zeiss lenses such as the Contax g2 Carl Zeiss 90mm f2.8 ( a must have lens for the sony a7 cameras). Pros - High IQ at any f stop, absolute beast when stopped down a tad say around f5.6 it becomes sharp as a tack. - Incredible contrast and micro-contrast - small, light, and goes incredibly well on the sony mirrorless cameras. - Focus ring is insanely smooth and butter-like. Cons - None as far as Optical Quality goes but the lens is made of plastic, albeit high quality plastic, but I would have paid a small premium for a metal version. The lens is very unassuming but to me it comes off as a bit boring, lacking character.

One of the best lenses for the system. Paired with an A7 this makes a great small and stealthy street combo. I used it for my trip to chicago and got some excellent photos. Dont let the "slowish" speed fool you. If you are close enough you can get some shallow DOF if needed and the lens is very sharp wide open. If you have a FF E-mount camera this is a must have.

Awesome lens on the A7R. It produces super sharp images. The only time I take it off my camera is to put on the equally awesome 55mm f1.8. I do not understand other reviewers fascination or frustration with the lens hood. Its a very clever design which protects the front element of the lens far better than a petal type hood would. I have yet to find a reason to take it off. Moreover, the hood takes up zero space in my bag, unlike petal hoods which take up a lot of space. There is no issue using filters on the lens, either. Remove the hood, put on filter, put hood back on. I wish all my lenses had a hood of this type.

Lots of vignetting and poor sharpness towards the edges of the frame. But small, fast, convenient, responsive, etc.

Ever since I decided got my Sony A7, Ive been using this lens together with it. It has been my travel buddy because of how light it is and it has been an all around lens for me for shooting landscapes, places, people and everyday stuff. The bokeh it produces at 2.8 is satisfying and because of how light it is, I always take my camera to hikes and long walks.

It has been a pleasure to use this incredibly sharp lens, so useful due to the portability and fast aperture.

Pros: -Light -Great image quality (its a Zeiss so you know it will be good) -Small form factor (does not draw attention) -f2.8 is a wide enough aperture for most situations -Good build quality Cons: -Expensive compared to competition -Lens hood is a strange design -Front lens cap is extremely small. Overall, this lens is awesome. You will love its size, light weight, and image quality. The price is a bit steep for a 35mm F2.8 lens though. If its too high I would look at the 28mm f2. I find 35mm on a full frame sensor to be almost the perfect walk-around / street photography focal length.

I am very impressed with this lens. First of all, the weight is amazing. I use it on a Sony A7ii and the combination weighs less than 2 lbs. Amazing! The photos I’ve taken with it are beautiful; the sharpness and colors are spot on.
