Just an average lens till you stick it on a sony A7s. When you have that much flexibility with the ISO the variable aperture issue goes out the window. I bought this till I can afford a high end 24-70 and Im totally satisfied. And I use it for events and concerts

It showed up damaged on the side and no mount cap. The quality is a little better then most people think of a kit lens. Again really disappointed it showed up like this though. I am giving it generous 3 star since I cant give it 2 and a half.

Came with the package all banged up, the lens inside was not secure. It was just rattling around in there. The lens looked dusty. Mine came with the back cap at least. It looked lightly used. But took pics fine. I wiped it down with some Zeis wipes and the rocket blower. I just did not like the packaging and lack of care in the shipping department.

I bought the lens for use on my Sony A6000. Its performance is decent for the price. I dont really want the Sony 24-70z since it is only 1 stop faster. Based on various reviews, the Zeiss is not too much better yet comes with a hefty price. The 28-70 is equivalent to 42 mm to 105 mm (35 mm equivalent) which is quite versatile. I use it sometimes with the Sony tele-converter VCL-DH1758 and it extends the range to 184 mm (35 mm equivalent) which is not bad for some mid tele photos. For wider angle, I have the 24 mm f1.8 z which is an amazing lens. All in in, I am happy with the purchase. It is not the fastest or the sharpest but it is good enough for general use.

When you want something light, tough, compact and 100% accurate all the time, grab this lens. It is sharp as hell for a factory kit lens, always hits focus, can be shot at very high shutter speeds and CF for sports. I shot skiing and this is a weather proof lens, so I could get down in the woods and grap aerial shots as they broke through the trees. The wide angle is perfect for landscapes and close subject, small amount of warping as expected and easily dealt with in Photoshop. could it be sharper? Yes, yes, it could be sharper but not for the price, not for the convienence. If you need the sharpest you need to carry a heavy prime and they are expensive too. Or go non auto with the Minolta Rokkor lenses as I do for portraits. But for a default slap it on and carry around side arm lens, this is the one for A7 series cameras for now. works very well with polarized filters, likes the shifted spectrum. Great piece of Sony design good for the beginner of course and very useful for a pro. Need to push it hard for Bokeh, and it is very subtle so not arty with focus. It does however make very artistic shots with HDR as it has such fast shutter and focus it can be shot sequentially by the camera with perfect alignment.
