I really love having this lens in my bag!! I use mostly my prime 50mm lens, but this one is a must-have for weddings and groups. I would keep it on all the time, except it doesnt quite have the compression and "feel" that my 50mm gives, which I feel is important to my work. I recommend this to any photographer who is looking to expand their lens set, especially if you dont know what to get - which is how I felt!! GET IT. You wont regret it. Also, this is worth mentioning - I rented the Sigma version of this lens and none of my photos autofocused correctly, which I didnt realize until afterwards. I took the plunge and bought this lens, hoping I wouldnt have that problem here and I havent. Id definitely get the Nikon version over the Sigma.

Before this lens, I primarily switched between the 35,50, and 85 G Prime lenses. I found it tedious having to switch between lenses when hiking, so I opted for a zoom that wouldnt sacrifice image quality. This lens is tack sharp wide open, and I was blown away by the colors and the contrast that it produces. The AF is possibly the best out of all of my lenses. I also take a lot of fast paced street shots when traveling, and the AF focuses on the subject in such a blistering speed. This is definitely one lens that I can be confident about for any photo assignment.

First off Id like to make it known that I did not purchase this lens on Amazon, which is why it doesnt say verified purchase. Ive only taken a few photos with this lens, but so far I am very pleased with the results. Included is the lens, lens hood, and a carrying bag which is pretty nice. The lens itself is quite big and heavy, but the build quality feels good. I like equipment that is somewhat heavy and solid. For some reason it feels easier to balance in my hands when shooting. The focus ring and zoom ring adjust smooth as silk. In the few test shots that I took I experienced sharp results as well as excellent color reproduction. I am using this on a DX camera, the Nikon D7100. No I dont see this as a "waste" of glass on the DX body. I already own a 10-24mm lens so not having the wide end as wide as it would be on a FX isnt an issue. Yes I could have used the money to purchase a few prime lenses to cover the focal lengths that this 24-70 covers, but Id rather not be changing lenses often. Having the battery grip for your DX body would be beneficial to create more weight balance between the body and lens. This lens is what I was looking for. It has a great focal range and will serve my needs very well. Before purchasing this lens, consider what you will be using it for. Images provided are sharp on my end, however I am not sure how well they will show up on Amazon.

The image quality from this lens is, as other reviews indicate, nothing short of spectacular. I was a bit hesitant to invest due to the price but this investment was definitely worth while. I had been using prime lenses for events, and just going back and forth was such a hassle. I use this lens with D7000/D7100, and it works great. The image quality is sharp, very sharp. I feel more confident with this baby and works great in low light conditions. My prime lenses barely get used during event photography now. The only thing I do not like about the lens is the weight. It is heavy. My wrists do hurt after a long period of time.

Since I purchased this lens, its been my walk-around lens. Im primarily shoot more intimate landscape/nature images, so this lens provides just enough wide angle and medium-range telephoto for my full-frame camera. The only issue I see with the design is the difficulty taking the lens on and off with the hood in the storage position. IE, with the hood in the locked position over the lens, the hood covers most of the barrel. The focal length ring is exposed, but one cannot take a lens on and off with that movable ring. I therefore have to install the hood at the end of the lens prior to putting the lens on, and keep the hood on until the lens is removed. I understand why the design is such, as the hood is very deep to allow the lens to move from 24mm to 70mm. Other than this idiosyncrasy, the lens superb.

I love this lens! If the 70-200 is great for outdoors, this lens is amazing for indoor, and outdoor, photography. I love using it for weddings, family sessions, and with my own family capturing their life. It is heavy at first, but once you get used to it, you wont notice. It takes crisp, clear pictures from a distance, and up close. I have included three pictures I took in the evening so you can see how it handles low light as well.

Ive got a few lenses and this one is outstanding in a number of respects, but not perfect. First, a few of the things I dont like: Its huge and heavy. About an inch longer than my 28-300mm lens. Its also pretty heavy. I dislike the fact that the zoom ring is in in the back, close to the camera body. The focus ring and zoom ring should be switched. Everyone that picks it up grabs the focus ring and tries to zoom with it. Bad design. Also, for this price Id expect image stabilization built in. It would really help with videos. Now, to the reason I love the lens and Im glad I bought it: The focus is super fast. The pics are very sharp at 2.8. I had 2 Tamrons before this. One was the old version and one was the newer version with image stabilization. Both were very soft at 2.8. I resigned myself to stopping it down to at least 3.5 or 4 to take a sharp pic. Only used 2.8 if I absolutely had to. With the Nikon, it focuses well and takes sharp pics at 2.8. I took this on a cruise recently and took hundreds of amazing pics at 2.8. The lens isnt perfect, and it is expensive, but it took amazing pics and Im glad I bought it.

I purchased this lens after owning the 24-120 f4 VR. I was blown away at the detail of the 24-70 and found I dont really miss the 24-120, VR lens since I gained a full stop. I found that I was not having to increase the sharpness of my pictures because they were already very sharp. When I was looking at this lens I wondered why anyone who was not a pro photographer would buy this lens but after seeing the results I know why. The minimum focusing distance on this lens is amazing (1.2ft) this allows me to get great close ups of my kids. If you are looking for that perfect portrait lens that is very very sharp pay the extra money and invest in the 24-70 2.8. It was tough for me to justify the cost but when I look at the pictures I almost forget how much this lens cost, almost. I learned too late that it pays top buy good glass after spending a few thousand on many average lenses instead of on a few really great lenses, oh I shoot a D7100 (not full frame) and I still love this lens.

This lens is amazingly sharp at every focal length across all apertures. It never comes off my camera. I use it with my Nikon D700 to document Art Installations for clients. It completely covers entire rooms with ease at the widest focal length. All distortion is easily and quickly corrected using settings in Nikon Raw. Previously I had to struggle trying to correct lens distortion manually with my lit lens. This lens is a dream to use.

Having shot Canon for years, I have several years of experience with the Canon 24-70 Mark I and 35L, in addition to numerous Nikon primes like the 85 1.4, 50 1.4 and 24 2.8 and the 17-50 DX zoom. At f/2.8, this is the sharpest lens of the bunch. This is the best standard zoom Ive ever used. Build quality is exceptional. Full metal body - old school build with weight to match. The zoom mechanism is machined and feels like a precise, mechanical device. The focus ring is exceptionally smooth. The bayonet hood is large, well built and with a locking mechanism. It is very easy to mount. For a standard zoom, this is a large lens, but the smaller diameter make it very easy to handhold. AF speed and accuracy is absolute top tier - it is exceptionally silent and dead accurate. Speed is excellent - AF acquisition is virtually instantaneous. My copy is +/- 0 mAF on a d800. Low light AF accuracy is among the best Ive ever used. Color is great - deep, contrasty and fully saturated. Sharpness is incredible - easily equal to any prime Ive used. On the d800, with my usual sharpness settings, the images are almost too sharp. Ive seen no coma or halation effects of note. Flare is well controlled, and contrast is maintained in difficult lighting. The bokeh is very good overall, and excellent for a zoom lens. The aperture is nine-bladed and out of focus elements are nicely rounded. For a lens this sharp, the bokeh was surprisingly good. Distortions are notable for CA and barrel at the wide end. Both are compensated when shooting JPG and are easily fixed when processing RAW data. The price is high, but affordable relative to the Canon 24-70 Mark II. The only fixed downside is the size and weight of the lens - its not a subtle look. The trade off is worth it. Excellent lens
