I am a wedding photographer and I needed to purchase a lens with a longer focal length and fast aperture for low-light settings. I spent weeks comparing this lens with the 70-200mm f2.8 IS lens that Canon makes. I know they are different lenses with different capabilities, but budget-wise I could only add one to my arsenal. Being a petite female, weight is a BIG factor in what I carry for weddings. By the end of a 12 hour day, my wrists are shot. I know the 70-200 f2.8 is touted as a must-have for photographers, but after renting one, it was just too heavy for me. I did love the shots though. Enter the 135mm f2, a lighter, cheaper alternative to the 70-200. Yes, its not a zoom lens and doesnt have the versatility of one, but Im a sucker for prime lenses anyway, so that was a non-issue. I took the plunge and ordered this lens and I have not regretted it one bit. I shot my first wedding with it this weekend and was blown away by the images I saw just on the cameras display. It took amazing shots in a low-lit reception. The couples portraits came out gorgeous. This lens is sharp as a tack and the bokah is smooth as butter. If youre wondering whether or not to order it, just do it. You wont regret it.

I was looking at the 200mm 2.0 but that lens is over $5,000. Feeling a bit discouraged I stumbled across this gem. After reading the reviews I decided I would give it a whirl. I mean the difference in price is incredible going from 135-200. Let me tell you this lens is well worth the money. I am soooo happy with it so far. And cant wait to use it for up coming portrait sessions.

This is the best lens in my kit! It is an amazing lens and I would recommend it to anyone! The most beautiful images have come from this lens. My favorite! It’s a fixed distance prime lens, so you must shoot subjects at a distance, but the images have never disappointed. Great to take images of people or an event if you’re farther away from the subject. Great for nature.

I wanted to wait a while before writing a review on the Canon EF 135mm F/2. Today is the day. After a good bit of use, I wanted to share my humble opinion of this lens. The EF 135mm is the gold standard as a Canon Telephoto non-long range lens! Advantages: Stunning, clean, sharp, smooth, colorful visuals of subjects at maximum aperture F/2, Incredible Bokeh at F/2 (especially with background light in low light environments), Fast Auto Focus (AF), Very quiet USM motor, and Excellent build quality, and looks sexier without lens hood (in my opinion). This is the lens for top quality photography! I cannot fault the lens for the following disadvantages, but users should know about lens Challenges: At 135mm Prime (fixed lens) user cannot adjust the zoom so subjects always appear much closer than user may want. Because of this reason, the lens does not have versatility to walk around with and talk photos of both indoor and outdoor subjects. Conclusion: I cannot think of any other reason to use this lens...unless it is for taking out portrait shots of peoples faces or certain inanimate objects. I will never sell this lens, because it is really that phenomenal. However, unless Im taking photos of people it is hard to use the EF 135mm.

This lens has made me instantly, a better photographer (I use the term loosely.) The capabilities of this lens far exceed my talent as a photographer. I bought a Canon 70D last Christmas in hopes of capturing beautiful images, images I see in my mind. This lens facilitates that and more. Using a crop sensor camera, makes this 135mm lens a 216mm but who cares!! Just get off your butt and move back a little more!! I cant say enough good things about this lens. Buy it if you can and if you cant, save until you can. Its well worth it.

This lens is the real deal. I, like many others, had read the reviews and wasnt sure if the claims of sharpness and overall awesomeness were simply that of Canon "fanboys" hyping up their gear. After owning this lens and seeing what it can produce, I can now understand why the reviews for it are so overwhelmingly-positive. The color that this lens produces is beautiful. At F2 its Bokeh-a-licious when I need it to be. Coupled with my 5Diii, the auto-focus is very fast and accurate. Not too big or heavy, at least not for me. I was a little concerned about the fact that this lens has not been updated since its original release in 1996 but now I understand why. You cannot improve upon perfection. Im thoroughly impressed and could not be happier. The only thing I dont understand is how it only costs $1k?! Wonderful value! Furthermore, Amazon shipped it to me very quickly and it was packaged very well. 100/100. A+.

Absolutely love my new L-series lens! My package arrived two days early in an undamaged, well-packaged box with AirPlus bubble packaging. The Canon box inside did come with a minor dent on the left side, but the lens and all other items (including warranty) inside came wrapped in the original packaging. The lens, hood, and sack all look untouched and function like new. Im so happy that Amazon offered their monthly payment option for this purchase so I wouldnt have to pay so much upfront. This 135mm f/2L is currently my favorite lens to shoot my subjects with. If youre looking for a cheaper prime alternative to the highly coveted 70-200mm f2.8 zoom lens, the 135mm is a great choice. You wont be disappointed with the quality and sharpness this lens offers, especially its fast aperture for low-light settings.

I have a large array of Canon L lenses... my go-tos are this lens and the 100mm macro. I absolutely love this lens - it is easily my favorite lens. It seems I cannot make a bad shot with it, as long as my settings are correct - when I check my shots, and they are bad, it is almost always due to the settings. Yes, you have to get a bit away from your subject (I dont do wildlife), and yes it is tack-sharp, but one can anticipate and compensate for this. I use the 100mm for macro and portrait, the 24 - 105mm for travel, and the 135mm for about everything else. I am an amateur enthusiast, so in my ignorance I would class this as a superior lens. By the way, I post my photos publicly, and track the results. I get the highest feedback rating from: 1) my Fujifilm XT-1 w/35mm lens, 2) my Canon Mark II w/135mm lens.
