I am a professional makeup artist with 17 years experience. I use multiple softbox lights when working on location; you never know what you will encounter outside the studio. WHY I CHOSE THIS LIGHT This light produces a 5500k temperature, which is a daylight temperature. Also, I like LEDs because they do not produce heat like my other non-LED softbox lights. ABOUT LIGHT TEMPRETURE Daylight temperature range is (5000K – 6500K). The higher the Degrees Kelvin, the whiter the color temperature, and of course natural sunlight color temperature will vary based on time of day and weather conditions. In order to provide the perception of daylight (bluish white light), you should use light sources with a color temperature of 5000K or higher. Hence, a 5500k-temperature light is perfect for makeup application. UNBOXING THE LIGHT-KIT After unboxing, the first thing I did is check to make sure the light works, it does and is bright and dimmable. Again, LED do not throw off heat like my other non-LED lights, which is nice because last week I was on location in less than perfect conditions, and the heat from multiple lights made things a little toasty throughout the day. Set-up This light is not professional quality made for daily commercial use. There are major differences between my professional lights, like the quality of material and manufacturing. For example, the light does fit correctly on the tripod. It works, but it’s far from perfect. I must note, this is my second light. I ordered one previously, but it was missing parts. I contacted Amazon and they shipped a replacement. The second one fit the exact same way on the tripod as the first light, which leaves me to believe this is just how they are manufactured. Please dont get me wrong, I am not nit picking, it’s just a fact of how they attach to the tripod. None of my other lights are like this. Everything is machined metal to fit correctly, and swivel with no problems. Hence, I say these are not professional quality lights designed for daily commercial use. It’s a decent light for the armature/semi-professional, or even a good back up in an emergency. Use It is important to note that this light produces a more directional light compared to softboxes that produce a bright ambient light. Sure as a makeup artist you may think that directional light is good, but you need to have complete even light to see every angle correctly, and for this reason I always use multiple lights. CONCLUSION Overall, this is a good light that produces a decent amount of light at the correct temperature. This is a suitable light for the armature/semi-professional. It’s bright and dimmable, and produces a 5500k-daylight temperature. You may want to consider purchasing an extra Softbox Diffuser that is made for this style of light. It will make a difference in softening the light. Keep in mind this is not intended for the rigors of daily commercial use. ****** Please let me know if this review was helpful by clicking the “Helpful” button below***** THANK YOU!
