I have a full line of Yongnuo remote flashes for off-camera shooting. I am not a professional photographer, and I dont use the equipment enough (or make money with it) to warrant purchasing all OEM-brand flash. I have an SB700 that I like very much, and I also had an SB910 which I used rarely just because I feared damaging it too much. I recently traded in some equipment and decided that I would trade in the SB910 and I got enough money that I could get this unit plus more. While the SB910 is a great unit, it just wasnt the right purchase for me, given how often it was used and how worried I was in breaking it. These Yonguo units pretty much do the same job, with the same power, for maybe 1/4 the price. This units seems to work well on-camera with TTL, and I can also use it off-camera with my manual 560 system. No real problems with misfires that I have seen yet, but I havent run it through an even with a couple hundred shots yet. What we have here is a top model for a low brand, and it translates very positively into a reliable and practical tool that is pretty robust, but wont cause heartache if busted. For the most part, I think that light is light, and as long as it fires reliably (in frequency and level) then its good.

I bought this flash after reading positive reviews here and elsewhere. Im not a working professional photographer yet but working towards it, so purchasing 3rd party is economical for me, but never again. The flash worked out of the box for about 10 minutes before it gave up. I was impressed by the build quality, its ability to communicate with my camera, but was burdened by its inability to function after only firing 3 or 4 times. The red Test light, or "charging light" blinked continuously, and never reset to firing capacity. I tried different batteries, new batteries, other batteries, troubleshooting from the manual, internet forums; and nothing worked. I had to drive to a nearby camera shop to rent a flash for event. It was a Nikon brand flash. Not an equivalent to this model, and too expensive for me to consider as an alternative right now, but on the horizon for me, I hope. Aside from receiving a bunk flash from the seller, the package arrived a day late. I dont know if this is connected to the defect or simply coincidence, but the experience of receiving and working with JUNK was infuriating to say the least. I have 3rd party Sigma and Tamron lenses that I swear by, but I cannot recommend the Yongnuo brand for flash.

I own 4x yn568ex II speedlights. I bought this and a yn685 to hold and compare, as they each have the 622n receiver technology built in, which is a TREMENDOUS upgrade and the sole reason Im looking to replace my yn568ex II flashes. This means less "stuff" physically on the flash, less gear to lug around, unit will fit better into light modifiers with smaller footprint and less AA batteries have to be carried. The overall build quality is incredible, compared to other Yongnuo flashes. This came out in 2017 and looks to be a manufacturing result of best practices and lessons learned over the years in the marketplace. 1) Build quality/plastics have peaked and are top notch 2) Overall flash is slim, especially considering the features packed in 3) improved battery door quality 4) improved laser auto-focus beam 5) hot shoe lock/release switch is way better than plastic thumb screw 6) output is higher than yn685, as GN is achieved at 105mm zoom vs 200mm I immediately returned the yn685 and am buying 3 more of these based on the build quality alone. Only a few buck more to upgrade to yn968 over the yn685, You could buy Godox stuff, which has a universal compatibility ecosystem (biggest advantage) going for it, but I dont think the build quality is on par with this unit, theyre more expensive and youre locked in to their proprietary Li-on batteries. I expect to get a long service life out of this unit. The whole point is, you can have 4 or 5 of these for the price of one OEM Nikon/Canon speedlight at 95% of the quality and feature set. Its a no-brainer. Pair this with a 622tx or yn968 in master mode on top of your camera and you can control an army of off-camera flashes.

Well I must to say that it its well constructed and solid, I bought it for its hss capabilities I tried it in my last photoshoot at sun set and it worked beautifully, maybe its not that great for noon shooting because it is not a mono light, but for my personal experience it did the job well done.

This is a conditional 5-star review that I intend to update over the next few weeks as necessary. Im giving it 5-stars for now, straight out of the box and after some preliminary testing, because it does exactly what I need it to do, and that is act as an on-camera master flash with radio for the Yongnuo 622 system. I shoot a lot of events with off-camera flashes and it was cumbersome to have an on-camera flash mounted on a 622 unit that itself was mounted on the camera; very unwieldy. So to just have a flash on camera that can control the other 622 triggers via radio is a HUGE advantage (I have Nikon flashes mounted on the 622 units and everything works perfectly so far). The flash itself feels sturdy and solid—its just a bit longer than the Nikon SB-900 although the flash tube is about the same size—and the controls, for me, were very intuitive (but I watched some YouTube videos before, so I had an idea). At this point, I cant say there is anything wrong, but I have yet to take it out on assignment; the Yongnuos durability as an off-brand flash is the big question. I will be back to update my experiences with it... UPDATE 1 (January 24th): Have taken it out for a couple of events and its worked wonderfully as described above. So far durability seems fine. Main thing I want to add is that, while it feels solid in its own right, compared to the Nikon flashes (all of the ones I have, which are the SB-900, 700, and 600) the Yongnuo definitely feels "plasticky" when you handle it. Thats a relatively minor distinction, though, but something of note.

Just received this today, and had a great out of the box experience. I had a Nikon SB-600 and one small drop broke it. Compare to the SB-600 this one as all the functionality as the top-of-the line Nikon flash. iTTL, Radio control, all angle tilt, bounce card, you name it. PLUS an LED light for video taking! All comes at a fraction of the cost compare to the Nikon products. Did a quick test with my existing YongNuo remote controls and it works perfectly. Flash color is very pleasing with the default Flash WB settings. Not to mention the flash very powerful. Cons: Diffuser is not included and packaging is a bit of an overkill. Not a big deal. For diffuser check out those designed by Gary Fong.

The main reason I bought this flash, was to use for low-light events. I was hoping to use the LED to help me focus on peoples eyes when its almost completely dark in some venues. Unfortunately, in the manual it says that the flash wont fire with LED on. That makes no sense to me. They could just turn the LED off briefly or fine a way to fire the flash even while LED is on. Other than that, so far this flash seems great. It can trigger my other Yongnuo flashes wirelessly and control their power as a master or be used as a slave with YN622N unit.. Price is very reasonable. I just with the flash could fire while the LED is on.

Let me preface this review by stating that Im a hobbyist who is still learning on camera flash. I didnt currently have a flash unit for my Nikon D750, so I wanted to jump in and buy a cheap feature packed flash. I picked this one because it was their newest model and it seemed to do everything I could think of. I have used this strictly as TTL with everything set to auto. Pros: Feature packed. Solidly built flash. Recharges quickly. Receives Firmware Updates. Nice packaging, comes with protective pouch Cons: Doesnt include a diffuser. (It may say it includes one, but its a diffuser for the LED video light on the front) With diffuser on the flash head (purchased separately), the flash goes into manual zoom mode, and you then have to control the zoom manually with the flash. Why?? Instruction manual could be more descriptive. Plastic material on front of flash unit scratches extremely easily. Dont even touch it with your bare fingers, its that bad. Overall if youre interested in learning flash, I think this flash is capable of everything you need.

Received my YONGNUO YN968N Wireless Camera Flash Speedlite Master Optical Slave HSS TTL for Nikon. I’ve been testing this flash for 3 days and it hasn’t failed me yet!!! The led lights almost blinded me, they work great as well but I’m thinking the button to turn them on should be place in a different location for future flashes..I’ll be receiving my 2nd flash and wireless remote in a few more days... #brightlight

This is a wonderful flash. I use this along with the YN685 flash and YN622 transmitter for a two-flash off camera setup - its a great combination. The included LED light is useful sometimes, although, it seems like a gimmick - maybe I just dont know what to do with it yet. Great flash. Great power. Great value. Works well as a master unit.
