Flimsy construction even when compared to previous YONGNUO speedlights. The flash is not well built as the previous version that I own (568EXII). The LCD screen is not that clear and the LCD backlight did not work properly on first use, I had to give it a slight bump from my right hand for the backlight to work and its working now. When firing the flash at full power, I hear a metallic ding sound inside the flash. That ding sound is also found in the previous model but it is now louder. It doesnt come with diffuser dome as other version on sale on amazon. The decrease in build quality is expected since the flash holds the same specs as the previous versions and adds a radio slave feature with the same price tag. Otherwise the flash works as expected and the radio slave is working fine with the Y22N controller. I still recommend this product for external off camera flash ONLY if you are working with YONGNUO triggers and controllers. If using other trigger brands I highly recommend purchasing the older version

I have no reason to not give this offering 5 stars. I tried my hand at some product photography and needed a third light to control from my YN622n tx. I have an SB 800 and a YN568EX on 2 YN622 tx. The transceiver for this flash is built in. Unlike my other Yongnuo flashes the menu system seems intuitive on this model. The mounting slide and lock is a great addition too! Using a shoot through umbrella, the built in radio transceiver allows a more central placement of the light. The flash appears to work really well without the use of modifiers too. Update: I should point out that I am not a professional hammering away with this light. I doubt I have fired it 100 times in a day, I never have used a second set of batteries or external power. I think the light may be a little cool. But I was blown away this weekend at the reach this light has.

I wouldnt recommend this one. The build quality is cheap, esp the flash bounce card...it broke upon opening gently. I have at last 7 flash lights and even some are 14+ yrs old and this is the first time it happened to me. Initially I thought may be I got a defective one so I returned and ordered another one, even the second is also same, very very flimsy. Im going to return the second one too. I have YN560 and it very good. This one worked fine on full power till 90 shorts then I noticed burnt smell, continued till 114 and then took 4-5 seconds to recycle and finally around 130 or so it became very hot. Overall I do not recommend this flimsy product. I used fully charged Xtech AA Ultra High-Capacity 3100 batteries to test.

Love these flashes. I have two for my Nikon d7200s. They work well, no glitches with Nikon. More powerful than my sb-700. I give them a good pounding. I use for backyard wildlife and macro so Im getting pretty much a maximum burst with each shot. Mostly on-camera but sometimes I use off-camera with the YN-622N-TX trigger. You can google all the good things about Yongnuo flashes, this review is mainly just to say I got two good units and they are holding up well.

They work great for a hot minute. But after you turn the top a few too many times, the cord comes unplugged from the circuit board and it flashes hot hot hot hot hot hot. Since I can’t affird Nikon I buy a sh*t ton of these every year and use them u til they break. Then Rick has to play Operation to fix them so I can get 1-2 more uses out of them. If you’re an active shooter, these are basically disposable.

Great flash. I love the hotshot locking system. The only draw back is that this things is a beast. Its huge but works flawlessly. With the integrated 622N trigger, this thing competes well with name brand and at its current price point makes it a very attractive option over the Nikon SB900 series flash. I was torn but once used along with my 622Ns and YN568EX flashes once configured, I completely lost interest in the Nikon flashes.

I was using it under normal conditions just 2 weeks after receiving it and I heard a loud pop - like a bulb blowing. Sure enough, it will no longer fire. Ive had the YN 568EX for almost two years and have had no issues with it. I was excited about some new features on the 685 (the hotshoe locking mechanism is much nicer as well as the user interface), but its definitely poor quality. Thankfully it is still within the Amazon return window.

its my 1st flash so i cant compare it with other stuff.. ill write about my persona experience.. the build quality feels cheap.. i use it with 622tx transmitter and love how easy to setup using it always in manual mode.. ill be getting the 2nd unit soon as the current ones hotshoe broke after an accident but the i still can control via transmitter

It works and all, but the interface on this and matching transmitter is really not intuitive. Ive been using YN-560 series forever but this new flash makes me want to look elsewhere.. like Godox perhaps.

I own three of these along with a YN965 and a YN622-TX controller. I have used these shooting sporting events to have two different groups/settings using two different cameras to capture runners coming from two directions. Very reliable.
