After I got this flash, I asked my parents if theyd be guinea pigs so I could test whether or not it would blind them in normal household lighting. I took three shots. The first with the bare flash, second with the included hard plastic diffuser, third with a softbox diffuser attached. They said the last was the least unpleasant, but the first didnt leave them with that glaring spot in their vision like after a flash that only fires at full power. They didnt think there was much difference in the intensity between the bare flash and the included diffuser, so Ill use the softbox for portraits. Its still a new toy for me, so Ive got a lot more to learn about it, but I already like it.

I have tried everything. The flash appears to fire when shooting in M on my camera but my images are still dark. I tried TTL with no luck. It shows on my camera menu and my f stop marches/shows what’s on the flash led screen it’s just not firing properly. If I put the flash into manual and put it in manual on the cameras flash menu....it doesn’t fire at all. I’ve tried in all my camera modes. Auto, aperture priority, manual etc....NOTHING! I was hoping for good results but I sent it back and ordered a different brand with HSS as well!

This is my first speedlight and Im impressed with it. Im no expert, so I like that it works with E-TTL and I-TTL systems. It came with everything in the product description. You can operate it in different modes, which is really handy if you like to tinker and tweak stuff to your liking. Its a great value for the price point. I think Ill learn a lot from the use of this flash. Getting familiar with the controls takes a little time, but its not bad. The owners manual is very helpful and is easy to read.

Why would you pay full price for an original Canon flash especially if you only use your camera once in a while. If you were a hobbyist or an amateur photographer maybe. But you have to be a practical shopper. This meets all the bells and whistles an is a great flash for your DSLR. I didnt rate it a 5 star since Im not a hobbyist nor an amateur photographer so it wouldnt make it right. But for the occasional photographer that just wants to take family photos this product is what you need.

I lost a high end xenon flash in flooding from Irma. I dont use an external flash that often but I was floored by the flexibility and features of this one for the price. For the rare times Ill need one, this flash will do the job.

Powerful flash with good features for under $50....doesnt get much better than that. I was looking for a flash that was fully compatible with my 80D and it does exactly that. E-TTL function also works fine. I havent been able to get the stepless zoom though...maybe Im not using the flash in right mode. Another minor complaint is that the carrying bag that came with the flash is a little loose...a bag that snugly fits the flash would have been better but its not a big deal.

There is missing wide angle diffuser in the package. Someone tries to sell separately? I want it. Because I paid it.

Everything I wanted and more! For the price this is an excellent flash unit. It works perfectly on both my Canon 60D and 70D.

The product I got wouldnt even turn on after adding the batteries. I thought I was getting a good deal but decided to return this and go for a more reputable brand.

Works well, but not the easiest to fully understand right away. Nice flash for the money, and good quality.
Make sure this fitsby entering your model number. MULTI POSITION - The Opteka IF-980 has an adjustable tilt head with six positions: -7 to 90°. The -7° downward tilt allows you to fully illuminate your subject when shooting close-up. You can also twist it to the left up to 90° and to the right up to 180°. MULTI ZOOM - The Opteka IF-980 covers a 24-180mm range (in 35mm full frame format) and extends to 18-180mm with the diffuser panel in place. In auto mode the zoom range is stepless, it does not set at 24mm, 35mm, etc, but matches the exact focal length of the zoom lens for optimal lighting. LOW LIGHT AUTO FOCUS - The Opteka IF-980 has an autofocus assist for low-light photography. Additionally the flash provides an independent AF assist. When a flash is mounted to the camera, the AF Assist option is enabled. The normal AF Assist light will not be used, instead the flashes autofocus assist system will take effect. E-TTL - The flash and ambient light are reflected by the subject through the camera lens and then metered by the camera's TTL metering system. The flash power is adjusted accordingly.
