SB-300 is a fine, small, handy flash unit, perfect for fill flash applications. My only complaint is that it runs on AAA batteries, not AA like the SB-400. I try to set it up that everything runs on AAs, so meters, flashlights, motor drives and radios all take AA batteries. Much easier to carry only one type of spare.

For the price, this is a nice addition to the amateur photographers bag. Reach of this flash is much better than the built-in flash of most DSLR cameras, and the swivel head is really nice. It provides nice, soft fill-in lighting without blinding the subject. When pointed straight out, it will illuminate objects at about 20 feet.

Kinda pricey at $150, but I think its worth it. This flash is a lot smaller than it looks. Uses two AAA batteries. I use NiMH eneloops and get a ton of flashes before I need to recharge. This will take your indoor photography to a whole new level by using the "bounce flash" method. Youll have to play with the ISO, white balance, and aperture/shutter to get the perfect photos -- but you will get them. The nicer Nikons now all have U settings, and I set my U1 so that the camera is always set for indoor bounce flash photos. Nice fill flash for outdoors too. I read in the specs that the recharge time is like 3 or 4 seconds, but if the batteries are relatively fresh youll be able to fire off flashes faster than that. This thing is small .... you wont even know its there. Very pleased. Great product.

This SB-300 flash is simply amazing. Works perfectly with my Coolpix A. It is small and unobtrusive and does the job. I have the SB-910, SB-900, SB-700 and SB-600 (for my other Nikons that I use). Even though all these work on the camera, the SB-300 is the perfect size. Even the SB-400, which I had and sold, would have been too big and bulky. And, the price is right. I tested the SB-300 on my Coolpix A in a dimly lit room. It took 8 shots in rapid sequence, at 10ft, with no light falloff or recycling issue. The shots were perfectly exposed. The bounce feature was also more than adequate. This flash fits nicely in my small travel bag with camera and Kindle. Love it.

This is a great flash for the price. It allows you to aim the light so that you can bounce it off the ceiling or towards your subject. Its not a professional model, but its great for intermediate photographers who are ready for the flexibility of a speedlight flash, but dont want to invest in a professional model.

If you are looking for an expensive, simple auxiliary flash for your Nikon D3200, this is the one. Remarkable difference in photos, especially portraits, when using it as a defused flash versus direct built-in flash.

Bought this to pair with my Nikon D500 for portrait shots. It works well. Ive never used an external flash and so this has been a bit of an education for me. However, if I had it to do all over again, Id splurge for a nicer, wireless Nikon speedlight that has more power and features.

This is certainly not a professional grade flash unit, and will not meet your demands if you wish to take flash pictures at great distance or in challenging light situations. BUT, for the amateur photographer with a D5300 Nikcon camera body, this provides the necessary boost to make flahs photography possible with good results (versus the much weaker built-in D5300 flash unit). For its purpose and price point, you will be very pleased.

Nice to have TTL fill and bounce flash without having to lug around an SB-910. All functions worked flawlessly. Good battery life. Highly reccommended for any level Nikon DSLR!

Great product - you wont imagine how long the battery lasts. I got well over 300 pictures on my first set and only expected 75. Solved a bad camera flash problem and saved me buying another $800 camera. Recommended.
