Equipment used with this item: Pentax K3 II Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 (all shots taken at 50mm) Ive never used a flash ring before and didnt want to spend $300+ on something I dont know if Ill use. For the price, I thought it was worth trying. Pros: Cheap and seems to work well enough. Color temperature seems to be fine and lighting is even. Consider the cons listed below, I still think this is worth the money as a first ring flash. Cons: At 50mm, the flash creates a vignette on the image. The more power you use on the flash, the worse it is. This is only a con because I intended to use my 17-50mm with this lens. Im sure it would be fine with a longer lens. The flash bleeds into the image because the inside of the ring is clear (or what ever color filter youre using). Ive added gaffers tape to the inside to block the light and it helps. It seems to be slow. Anything faster than 1/160 second and the flash seemed to activate after the shutter closed. Attached photos: The dog toy: This is after gaffers tape was added. 50mm with the flash at maximum power. The flowers: This is how it takes photos out of the box (all lights, left side only, and right side only). 50mm with the flash at maximum power. The flash itself: You can see the gaffers tape inside the filter. You can still see it at 50mm but the tape helps block excessive light from bleeding into the lens.

The flash works well but it has some issues that make it less than user friendly 1. the flash, with the holder sticks beyond the lens enough that its not very good for macro work. I found the best solution was to just manually hold the ring flash around a lens small enough to fit through the inner diameter. 2. the lack of a port for AC power is annoying since when working inside, it would be WAY better than running batteries 3. the batters being non-rechargeable is a hassle, BUT i knew that going in, the product was very honest about it Overall i am happy with my purchase. For the once a month I use it for macro work, this is all I need. Anyone doing anything more intense, or more often might want to upgrade to a better model.

This inexpensive ring light works well with my Canon 100mm macro. It does have flash but it tends to over expose the macro shots. The light mode gives plenty of light for the macro shooting. I have not experimented with the different colors or neutral density filters. There are adapters for many size lenses. My only negative is that you have to disconnect the light from the lens and then screw the adaptor out to use the lens cap.

Wicked bright, and wicked flexible. For someone who is looking for the "ring light" affect in their portraits or selfie videos, this is an affordable way to get it. Useful for macro, where light at the end of the lens, entirely on the subject is necessary. Also very good video, as the lens will not cast a shadow on your subject, like when using a cold-shoe mounted light. the brightness is adjustable, as well as it has a simple "flash" feature that might be useful... Burns through batteries fairly quickly, depending on your settings, so grab some rechargeable batteries. The little color gel rings are nice.. Youll probably just use the ring light without them, and adjust your white balance, unless youre trying to match a certain lighting scene. The thread adapters are a nice touch. There is almost certainly an adapter to get you by as long as you have a full set of step up and step down rings. Also sold by Neewer for a decent price.

This works fine for me, in any ringlight mode. And the left/right feature is good for modeling effects and side lighting of subjects which dont work well with direct front lighting. The only issue I have with the quality is that the adapter rings to fit the front of the lens ar plastic, and seem to be soft plastic at that. I suspect it would only take one cross threading to ruin the threads. What I will probably do is to attach an empty metal filter ring to this, and use that from then on to attach the ringlight to the lens. OK, so setting aside the plastic rings problem, I found this light/flash quite easy to use. HOWEVER, if you are accustomed to doing everything in program mode, you may be disappointed if you dont have a good understanding of using you camera manually. I use the ringlight in full manual mode so no problem. But this is not a program flash unit. While it does have variable power settings and several other functions, you may find your camera will not interface with it in program mode. If this unit was a little more substantial, and/or the adapter rings better, I would probably be giving it 5 stars, especially for the LOW price.

Works as advertised. Though I think the description should changed from "Ring Flash" to "Ring Light". Yes, you can make it "Flash" but its not in the same realm as an actual flash/strobe thats typically used for low light...stop action. I knew this going in since that type of ring flash costs upwards of $400. But, having said that, it works great when shooting macro by adding extra light to the subject. As others have said, its a bit flimsy being made of all plastic but I think with proper care it will hold up. The LEDs are fairly bright but if youre shooting, for example, a moving insect or flowers that are moving because of even the slightest wind, you will have to make adjustments to your settings...f-stop, shutter speed, ISO depending on the lighting condition youre shooting under to get a sharp image. A "Flash" in the true sense of the word would stop that motion. All in all, this is a great product thats fun to play around with. Especially for the low price of $30. Just know going in that it does have some limitations. I would definitely recommend this for anyone wanting to experiment with macro photography without having to spend hundreds of dollars. The attached photo is my first test shot with the ring light. The flower is only the size of a dime.

For a super inexpensive LED macro flash, this is alright. It lights up when its supposed to and being able to choose from all the lights on to just half is useful. If everything worked as they were supposed to, I would give this 4 stars. However, there are a few problems. First, when you press the power button, it fails to turn on. Eventually though, with enough force and yelling it turns on. To turn it off I just pop a battery out. The second problem is that the plastic lens adapter rings tend to bend and flex enough to pop off the lens threads. It is definitely easier to put on and take off by just pulling the flash off and pressing it on, but there is something to say for a solidly mounted accessory. Thirdly, the LED ring itself doesnt fit snugly on the adapter ring so the light spins freely. Not too troublesome if you use all the lights at once, but if you want to use the Left/Right Only option, this is a major problem. Putting some electrical tape on half the ring seemed to have solved the problem though. Lastly, the color of the LEDs is a little cool, and if you use the yellow ring, it is too yellow (yellow, not warm). So, when it turns on, it works as much as you would think a $30 flash would work. You get what you pay for, but when it works, it works.

Shipping took forever.. A months time! Ugh! However the light is tons of fun and love that it is continuous light as well as a flash! Happy that it has a display screen. Macro shooting is amazing with this light and it could be pitch black and still puts out enough light for a clean, crisp picture. I took tons of pics just playing around and cant wait to take more! Great buy, happy customer!

I used it with a Canon 70D and Canon 100mm macro lens. The ring light (not flash) goes on easily enough. It operates in flash or continuous lighting modes. You can also adjust the intensity by +/- 1.5 units. It is completely manual, the Canon doesnt even recognize I have a unit attached to the hot shoe. When there is some ambient light, this unit has virtually no effect on the exposure time, but it may eliminate some shadows. In shady areas, where bugs like to be, I was hoping to use the continuous light mode to push my exposure times into hand-holdable territory. Its simply not bright enough. Although it may save me a stop on ISO, I have more success simply using a real external flash. This unit may be useful as a fill or catch light, or if you are on a tripod, but Im not finding it useful for handholding macro shots of bugs or flowers out in fields or shady underbrush on overcast days.

An inexpensive and compact unit. I can transport it in a GPS (Lowe) bag. Its a bit delicate though. The wire connection between the controller out to the flash head now has exposed wires. The connection is still fine but the black overcoat has cracked. Still easier to transport and cheaper to use several replacements than my Nikon ring light. I am happy with the results and use it primarily in macro and floral photography. I keep it in light mode but battery life is still good. I can also use it off the lens to create shadow and depth. Too much or too little light, fast adjustment. So if long life is mandatory, be forewarned about the delicacy of the wiring.
