20180810: Great flash. I have three of these now. I have used these on a 9-hour shoot and the flash batteries never ran out and the speedlights always kept up. These units will do radio or photo slave, TTL or manual, and strobe. They do HSS, and will also act as a transmitter if you were so inclined to attach one directly to your camera. The units provide beam control up to 200mm lens. My 4th flash is a TT600, but I rely on these V860 units most of the time because the lithium power pack lasts so much longer. 20180811: Unfortunately, I must reduce the rating to 4 stars. I sitll like these flashes, but Ive found a serious flaw in their design. The mount plate is plastic. In the past, Godox made the speedlites with metal mount plates. Now they come plastic, and -- they break. I had a light stand topple today, not a big topple, nothing catastrophic, didnt even hurt the umbrella, but the acceleration stressed the mount too much and it broke, allowing the unit to come free from the shoe. It still works, but now I have to mount it in an adapter. The units mount supports the entire device, which is relatively heavy. Godox should never have gone to plastic for the one small piece that needs to support the entire flash.

I am in love with the Godox line up. I have done several unboxings and comparisons on my youtube channel Legacy Studio Reviews. The only con I can see so far is on the hot shoe, specifically because of the "teeth" on the shoe. Check out the videos to see what I mean. But the build quality is excellent, and the flashes work like a dream. I own both the TT685S and the V860IIS and on both accounts they all have quite a few more pros than cons. If I was to rate the TT685 vs the V860, in a few short words would be... Con: hot shoes. Con: TT685S can only get about 250 shots at full power... Pro: V850 can get closer to 900 at full power Con: V850 doesnt have the ability to use a power pack Pro: TT685S can use a power pack Con: V850 replacement batteries are $40 each Pro: both flashes seem to weigh about the same.

This review is for the Godot V860II S flash, for Sony cameras. This flash has many attractive features, but unfortunately some of them did not work. For example, the flash is supposed to automatically adjust for changes in focal length when using a zoom lens. For that it has both an automatic mode (where the flash adjusts itself and displays that adjustment on the LED screen) and a manual mode, where you can enter the desired focal length yourself, using a settings dial on the back. Neither worked. I could never get the flash to go into the automatic mode (indicated by an "A" on the LED screen). It would immediately default to the manual adjustment mode when the flash was turned on and would not change. When I tried to adjust the focal length setting manually, it refused to adjust, staying stuck at 14mm. Perhaps a problem in the flash software? I dont know, but given this problem I never really got a chance to use it to see how it performed (or if other problems cropped up). A shame really as the flash is attractively priced for the features it offers and does come with a few useful accessories (e.g. a soft box diffuser). It also uses a proprietary battery pack, not the AA batteries my nikon flash uses. That seemed to work ok, but it limits flexibility -- if your battery unexpectedly dies and you do not have another, there are no alternatives. After trying a number of times to get it to work, I finally gave up, called Amazon, and returned it. Thank goodness for Amazons return policy!

Really love these flashes - I originally bought the package with the X1T trigger, then upgrades to the Xpro. The flashes are working flawlessly on-camera and off, using the trigger. The included soft-box came in handy when doing the spontaneous shoot with my buddies son. This shot was done using two of the V860II-S flashes and the Xpro-S trigger. You could definitely do the same using the X1T - the Xpro is just much easier to use (IMO).

Im just getting into the wedding photography space right now - and using a flash is a game changer, especially at night during reception and of course in low light situations! The Godox V860II-S works wonderfully! The company I currently shoot for, uses on camera flash exclusively throughout the entire day! Its their look, and I was getting tired from borrowing their lenses and flashes (they use Canon 5d mark iii) these cameras are beastly! Their heavy and cumbersome, and they are just too big to carry around. The Godox flash, is significantly smaller and I was afraid that the batter wouldnt last the 8 hours that I would need it for. To my surprise, this flash did superbly - in fact I had it on my camera for about a total of 4 hours with it powered on. The battery lasted the entire day and still had more than 50% power left - - Im very impressed. The Godox lost a start for its material - I wish, just like everyone else that the hot shoe mount was in fact metal. The plastic doesnt feel 100% secure, when you screw it on - - in fact it slide out once (probably user error). Nonetheless it feels like thats where Godox cut the corner there to keep this budget friendly. Ive only used it for about 4 weddings now - and so far its holding out nicely. The weight is light, the plastics feel durable-ish, and the form factor is perfect for my Sony a7iii. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for an alternative the very expensive external Flashes that Sony offer.

Whats not to love? HSS, Recycle time is ridiculously quick, battery lasted forever at the last event I shot that was 5 hours and I still had a full bar at the end of the night.

This is the best flash for any system, unless you go super-high end (profoto, that $600 sony flash, etc) and its held up to daily use for a long time now. One thing I dislike on the Sony version is the plastic foot. Really.. you put a plastic foot on a flagship speedlight? Thats just cheap, godox.

I first will get what I dislike about the Godox V860II (S) Flash and that is that material that it is made out of feels cheap. If youre rough on camera equipment or have to setup really quick then this might not be the flash for you. What I do like about this flash is the refresh cycle time, the cost of the v860II (S) flash and the capabilities of the flash. I really not a flash "expert", but theres a feature not available to Sony cameras and from what I understand its more of Sony thing than a Godox thing. Although I cant remember what the feature is exactly, I take it isnt that big of deal that its missing on Sony cameras. You cant see real time when the flash is on, you either have to turn it off or setup a custom button having "shot result preview" selected.

I own the smaller version of this style flash that godox makes. In real world use Id estimate the smaller one to be possibly an eighth or even a tenth the power of this flash. Add the lithium battery which can last more than a day depending on its use and you have a high-powered portable flash with built-in Wireless that can act as either a transmitter or receiver. High speed sync, TTL, the features go on and on. There are of course more Powerball and more expensive portable flashes or strobes as they call them. You need to decide whats suitable for your use. I find I use these more often than any of them and thats for indoor and outdoor use. I often use only one or two of these. Sometimes three. They can take a while to recharge and its not a bad idea to have an extra battery but I use them for a long time without any problems and didnt have an extra battery. I find most of the items in the kit useful as well. Not bad for freebies!

The V860II-S flashes and the Xpro-S trigger combine to make a fantastic combination. I bought five of these flashes and the Xpro-S to use for taking pictures of hummingbirds. They work great and recharge very fast. I can take about 5 pictures per second with the fully charged large batteries. With this combination, I can get lots of photos of the hummingbirds in flight and with the wings STOPPED!
