OUTSTANDING flash. I use Nikon SB910s and SB800s and this is SO MUCH EASIER to use. Straight to the point. Plenty of power and the TTL metering is excellent. Lighter than my Nikons yet it has a metal hotshoe foot! BONUS! I plan on getting more of these. If you use the remote remember its only to activate a light or lights and not communicate via TTL mode. Also, stock up on the 22v type N battery from Amazon where its cheap. You dont want to go hunting for one of these batteries at your local shops. They are over $12 each street price but cheap online. The flash uses 4 AAs and has storage straps in the case for 4 more. The remote uses 2 - AAA for the receiver and 1- 22v type N for the transmitter. I have not had much use with this one but if its like my similar looking one with a different name it sucks the 22v battery like a hungry vampire on Halloween. The remote is NOT MY GO TO remote. Only when I am desperate as I have other remotes that do more. I am a full time photographer and have been for decades ... and decades ... did I say decades? If this helps please check the "helpful" box or thumbs up or what ever makes me seem like I helped you find some good information. I almost forgot ... the case is the bomb. The velcro belt strap is easy to release but has a security setup so it doesnt come off too easily (street robbers running by and snatching may end up with your pants too ... ) The diffuser is a BONUS, the case is a SUPER BONUS, a lens cloth ... nice thought and overall its great! The motorized zoom works wonderful and the LCD light is on when you activate your camera! Love it!!! Rotates, bounces, difuses and has a wide angle lens inside too plus a handy stand for flat only surfaces. .... whew ... I am tired of typing. You wont regret this unit.

Just received and upon first blush I am very pleased. The packaging was very sturdy and I was amazed at the quality of the items once I unpacked everything. One reason for the surprise was that I also had ordered a Nikon SB-500 flash that arrived the same day and comparing the items and for the cost I am very impressed. I bought this as a secondary flash for my Nikon D5600 and it fit like a glove. It takes 4 AA batteries as opposed to the Nikon500 which takes two. I has a great, well made case of cordura-type material that holds the flash, the diffuser and some other accessories as opposed to just a felt bag like the 500. The carrying case has a velcro strap for attaching to the outside of a camera bag for easy access. The remote that comes with it came packaged alone but even had batteries. Cranked the flash on the camera and it paired perfectly right off the bat. Plastics are all sturdy and feels like a quality product. Will leave more detail after using it for awhile.

I just received this today. Its an awesome flash, great features, amazing output.. but the POWER (on/off) button isnt working properly. I am completely unable to toggle it using my finger and/or fingernail. I have to resort to pointy instruments, like the tip of a key or a knife, in order to be able to depress it enough, for it to actually toggle. All the other buttons works flawlessly. I sent it back and will be updating this review when a new flash is in house. *** UPDATE 8/24 *** I must have run into a batch of faulty units - this second one will only turn on when depressed using the tip of a knife. So far ZERO stars to this crap!

These are the best flashes I own. I am a professional photographer. I have Nikon brand flashes that each cost me what 6 of these flashes would cost. These blow my Nikon flashes out of the water. The are just as well built, have built-in bounce cards, their lowest setting is a full power setting lower than my Nikon flashes (lower power settings means greater flexibility and faster pulse and recycle times), and their interface is much easier and faster to use than the Nikon one. Switching between TTL, Wireless, and Manual is only a button press away. Their construction is also as good as or better than my Nikon flashes. I managed to drop one on these on its head one day and it still fires perfectly. I love these flashes and cant recommend them strongly enough.

We purchased this as a last-minute Christmas gift for our son, who recently upgraded to a Nikon DSLR 5300 camera. Although this flash comes with a custom diffuser, we also purchased the diffuser suggested. Our son is very happy. This flash has perfect timing with his Nikon camera, and slave timing (it will also go off at exactly the right time when not attached to the camera, for varieties of lighting possibilities). He likes to have the option of using the custom diffuser ALONG with the separate cloth diffuser that we purchased, when he wants soft lighting. This flash comes in a wonderful case, so all the parts stay together. He loves it, and is busy trying a variety of set-ups. The price was right. I will also review the separate diffuser that we purchased. Thank you for reliable shipping!

It passed the initial test of working out of the box (all modes and adjustments of flash unit itself, transmitter/receiver, etc...). I used the flash once a few days later without issue for a few dozen shots. Second time I stuck it atop my camera the next week, it made it a half dozen shots and the flash stopped firing. Red light would blink, go solid, and then nothing. SET/ON factory reset Id seen mentioned in the comments here did not help. Neither did pleading or vulgarity. Begrudgingly returned it for a refund - which is a real shame because, outside of it failing near-instantly, it seemed like a really nice speedlite functionally!

great for budget lighting and simple to use once you learn. I used to be an all natural light photographer but Ive been branching out as that has some limits. I was ignorant and under the impression that flash creates an unnatural and super bright look but after some learning and playing with lighting angles/ placement, I realized you can create very different types of lighting even natural looking with some practice. For such an inexpensive price, this light packs a good punch and even when only using one it can give you the results you want especially as an intermediate or beginner photographer. Its even more of an investment with gels for this flash for more color options/color corrections, selens sells really good ones that fit this perfectly ( just tie a hairtie on the gel/ top of flash to keep it to stay). I love the diffusers this speedlight comes with, but it doesnt hurt to try other brands and styles as well! The only complaint ill say is the stand for the flash is cheap plastic and not durable, not stable at all and unless on a flat surface or tripod. other than that, great product.

I dont typically write reviews...actually this is my first product review on Amazon ever. The reason I am writing this is because I bought this flash kit as my first flash kit for my Nikon D7100. Initially, I liked the option because of how affordable it seemed to be when comparing to Nikon Flashes or flashes of higher quality, and the product reviews seemed to be good. So I thought I would try it out! Well... initially the flash worked very well. I used it maybe 2-3 times, then had to move across the country and had training for a new job for 7 months. During that time period I took my camera and camera gear with me (was not left in storage like the rest of my property), the reason being is that I did not want the movers to break my gear or for it to be stuck in storage. So the whole time I was training my gear was with me and never handled by anyone other than myself. Well fast forward to about 3 months ago when I was at my Nieces 3rd birthday party. I donned my trusty flash kit, and no juice. Changed the batteries, and no juice. Changed the batteries a 3rd time and no fire. So, after literally using this flash 3 times tops, and not even going through one complete set of batteries it no longer works. Wasted money and wasted time trying to figure out whether or not this product will work. Wont even power on, everything just stays blank. My advice, save your money, buy something more reliable. I had this for less than a year and used it 3 times and it will no longer work. Very frustrating, especially considering I wasnt able to get the photos I wanted for my niece. Shame on me I guess for not testing it before hand. Wont make that mistake again, and wont buy this product again.

quick shipment. works perfect with my Nikon D3100. It connects directly to the camera boot. Its quite heavy (uses 4 AA batteries) and adds a lot of top weight to the camera (about 8" tall). The flash can be operated remotely from the D3100 if you purchase a separate plugin device that plugs into the camera so it can talk to this flash unit. Many cameras have the "transmitter" built into the camera, but not the D3100. If you have the remote transmitter, you can set this flash unit in the center of the room and operate the camera without having the heavy flash mounted to the camera. I purchased to take photos at a wedding. It was perfect. I got used to the heaviness did fine with it. The brightness of the flash is adjustable by: 1) bouncing the flash off the wall/ceiling 2) electronic control over the length of time the flash "burns" 3) flash aperture. This flash unit has an aperture that hides/exposes the reflectors in the flash cavity. It was very easy to adjust the aperture to "washout" the photo with light or under expose the image. In other words, this aperture is very effective, and useful. I used the flash indoors with great results and later outside with great results from up to 40 feet away. I didnt purchase this, but heres the remote flash "driver" you might want to trigger the flash remotely: $27.00 http://www.amazon.com/fitTek-Multi-Channel-Wireless-Trigger-Shutter/dp/B00Q7W08RA/ref=sr_1_7?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1453409926&sr=1-7&keywords=D3100+remote+flash See attached photo. Outdoors. I was about 30 from the subject with a zoom lens. It was getting dark, the street lights were coming on. I had to adjust down the brightness of this photo to keep from washing out the subject. Plenty of light for many applications. Very pleased with the performance and especially the price of this unit. I recommend this unit and would purchase it again.

Having owned multiple Nikon SB flash units, I didnt expect much from this Altura at 1/3rd the cost. I was pleasantly surprised! The Altura performs admirably, charges quickly, and doesnt burn through batteries any more quickly than my Nikon SB800. Yes, the interface is not as smooth, but for a flash that you throw on a backup camera, its performed like a champ. I find it to be a little light on the guide range, but otherwise I have no complaints. Build quality is decent (if not quite up to Nikon standards) and it has held up well after six months of usage. For the price, you cant go wrong.
