I was simply looking for an inexpensive flash that would work attached to a Canon Rebel T5i, and this totally exceeded expectations. The flash works great. It can be adjusted to change the flash output, and it can be aimed 360. The highest flash is very bright, and the lowest flash is a nice subtle light. It is perfectly compatible with the Canon camera. The nicest surprise is it can be used as a wireless flash off the camera... in other words, an inexpensive way to have a portrait studio, or to work with side lighting. And wait, thats not all! It comes with a remote for your camera! Granted, the remote is pretty inexpensive and is simply a button that acts as the shutter release.... but it does work, and was a bonus as I wasnt really looking at that when deciding whether to purchase! The diffuser is inexpensive plastic, but it does the job and thats all you really need. Be prepared to find a you tube video by others who had used it or something similar as the manual didnt translate very well. It has my full stamp of approval.

Install Flash Player I researched and read many reviews of flashes before buying this one, and Im really glad I did. This Flash is perfect for price and good value. No it cant do TTL or anything fancy like that but if you want a manual flash thats easy to operate and reliable with a decent build quality then this is your best bet. Its plenty powerful enough and also comes with a terrific little soft box which is incredibly useful and can also be used for other classes as well.

I have a Nikon d5300 and I Really like this flash a lot. This flash works so great for the price you get it for. I have never owned any flash for my camera before. Im sort of a beginner and Im learning how to use my camera more and more everyday. So I thought it was time for me to get a flash because the built in flash is way to harsh. When I was searching on amazon I found this flash. Im a college student, I wanted something that was going to give me great results but wasnt going to leave me broke. When I opened the box, I was surprised of the weight of the flash. It didnt feel like cheap plastic. Its pretty sturdy. The pictures attached are pictures I took in my house( I used the softbox they give you in the package). The light in my house isnt that bright and gives people a orange skin color.. When I put on the flash it really made a crazy difference. Btw these pictures are not edited. Just straight out of my camera to the computer. If you want a great flash for cheap, DONT LOOK ANYWHERE ELSE

I finally had time to use my flash during a photo shoot. Since it was my first time using flash it was a learning curve. Had to learn about the importance of the GN (38 for this flash) and how to determine my iso, aperture and distance. Read the manual and watch a few videos on youtube. It helps. The flash worked as advertised and with as much as used it did a great job. The photo shoot was long and I kept the device on most of the time. In manual mode it has this sleep setting the works when it should. To turn sleep mode off all you need to do is hit text. I like the images from the event. I did accidentally hit the buttons with my hat and overexposed a few images but that was mistake. I need to remember to remove my hat. This flash is well priced and as a photographer that is still learning how to use flash this is the best place to start. BTW, everything came packaged perfect. I also have not used the remote.

An impressive bundle! Ive used this for several shoots and the recycle time is impressive for such a cheap flash. I was able to fire once every few seconds even on higher settings and very rarely had to slow myself down to make sure the flash was ready. I think out of about 350 pictures I did for a client on location at night, the flash missed the mark only about 2 times, and I was never slowing down my process to make sure it was keeping up. I was also shooting full-body images and couldnt have the flash too close, so I had to have it set on the higher end. I have comparable flashes but went with this one because it came with some free goodies and the extra stuff they include (small light-box diffuser and infrared remote) both worked great for my Canon 70D. The remote isnt super powerful, so I wouldnt rely on it too much for serious shoots, but I needed to do self-portrait head shots recently and I used this remote to trigger the camera to great results. I was about 5 feet from the camera and occasionally it didnt trigger so Id move my hand to make sure the infrared was picked up by my camera, but for a freebie item it was a really nice addition.

My dad gave me his old canon 5d but it didnt come with a flash. I have a little canon t3 thats been going strong for years and was excited to get a new toy to play with. Obviously, I need a flash. Balling on a budget after reading up on loads of reviews and searching high and low, I finally settled on this one. Ive only been tinkering with it for about an hour, but so far, I love it. I took several sample pics in my dining room while testing and the flash quality is great. Ive attached 2 puns that i took with the flash on the list setting and tilted upward at a slant. The pic was taken in daylight, by the kittens were in the shade, flash provided just the right amount of light. No editing in either pic. Flash at highest setting blares everything out to just white, its powerful ive never needed to use it above the second power line. I unfortunately dont have anything to compare it to but overall, I cant complain. I havent tested the remote yet, and will keep it boxed up until I have use for it. All parts and accessories came packed up nicely, scratch free and in perfect condition. Im not entirely sure how to use the soft box panel thing (I love using technical terms), as anything past point-and-shoot is above my sphere of knowledge, but im excited to learn all my new bells and whistles. Will try to add a couple sample pics of various flash levels, use of box thing and bounce card. Batteries were a bit difficult to put inside, you really have to press hard and put a little elbow grease into it. Other than that, Id say $40 well spent!

This flash works exactly as described. While its not the same output (GN) as the more expensive flashes, its less than half the price. Plus you get a remote, a really nice mini soft box diffuser, decent cleaning cloth and batteries. All for less than $40. This means you have a flash you can take out to the desert, in the wind, on a beach, anywhere that you would feel scared to take your $500 flash. If you drop one of these in the ocean, its cheap to replace. Thats not to say that these arent sturdy. The build quality is comparable to my expensive Pentax flashes from 10 years ago. And the speed and output is about the same. Out of the box the recycle time is less than three seconds at full power - even with the batteries they provide. At lower powers, the recycle is less than a second. I only use these flashes (I ordered two) for my portable studio and my tabletop, so I use only use manual and slave 1 mode. While Id prefer to have actual power markers (e.g. 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16) the 1 through 5 setting is adequate for my use. The Slave 1 and Slave 2 modes fire perfectly. Slave 2 is for pre-flash detection. If you have red eye reduction flash or a particularly bright focus light you should use Slave 2 mode. The built in diffuser as well as the mini soft-box both work as well as any others Ive used. There is no TTL on these but for the price I dont expect it. One particularly good point isnt about the flash, but the soft box. The soft box mounting strap works really well and holds tight on all of my flashes. No 3M adhesive to muck up the finish on the flash, Just strap it through the loops. The loops feel a little cheap and like they might break, but there are enough that if one or two break you still should not have any trouble mounting it. And eventually I might have to resort to using a big rubber band. But I havent faced that yet. Like any mini soft box, you lose a stop or two of light, but the shadows do come out decently soft for the size of the box and the light is even and consistent and without negatively affecting the white balance. I only use these for my tabletop studio since for regular shoots you want a shoot through umbrella or a larger soft box to really spread the light.

So far, I am really enjoying this speed light! This is my first one since I am a beginner and it was easy to set up and use. The one thing I had problems with was trying to figure out how to put the soft box on because it does not come with directions but I eventually figured it out. I can also hook this up and use it as a flash off camera because I also bought a wireless flash trigger from the same company. Altura Photo Wireless Flash Trigger for CANON w/ Remote Shutter (Canon EOS 70D, 60D, SL1, Rebel T5i, T4i, T3i, T2i, T1i, T5, T3, XT, XSi, XSi DSLR Cameras) I love Altura products and will continue to buy them in the future.

If you have a nice camera, and want to take it to the next level or two- this is what you need. Im a beginner, and I think since this is manual controls, it is actually better for me to learn with. So powerful, it must be used wisely as it can overpower the sun at certain angles! Yeah I couldve spent 4x the price to buy the specific Olympus flash, but this Altura UNV1 is more powerful providing more light at greater distance, and the only almost downside is experimenting with the flash strength setting. That is the main difference, the brand name flash would auto adjust the flash strength. Besides, "accidentally" overpowering the flash setting to white out a pictures details provides loads of entertainment for the kids and me. Im sure the wife will appreciate it someday. But at the end of the day, combined with a nice tripod like the Ravelli APLT4 and some practice, you can go out and create your own pro quality pics at a surprisingly reasonable price
