Nikon D7100 24.1 MP DX-Format CMOS Digital SLR (Body Only)(Renewed)

Since I had a Canon w. the speed-lite 430 II external flash, why switch brands, when moving to a DSLR? User Interface. G12 minimized the need to dig through menus will all of its dials & buttons. Canon goofed when they didnt do that with their APS-C sensor cameras. Want buttons & dials? D7100 or some of the Pentax DSLRs, but the later is weak on lens selection. (Want the Tamron 150-600 long telephoto lens. Too bad if you have a Pentax camera.) Any DSLR, just by having a larger sensor, will have better image quality than an advanced P&S (also have the Olympus XZ-1), so why else should you select the D7100 over another DSLR? Full-size optical view finder: See all of your composition, aperture, shutter time, exposure, focus point(s), and if in-focus indicator if you are focusing manually. Plus much less power consumption vs. the Live View on the LCD. Amazing how few DSLRs have a full-size OVF. And you can use it to compose w. the camera turned off. Other pros: Weather-resistant & great Live View on a large LCD display. D7100 has a fantastic auto focus system, and works better in Live View, compared to the OVF for static objects such as macro work & landscapes. OVF rocks for that snowy owl taking off, because its fast response time. Pictures are @ ISO 6400; even ISO 25,400 is not bad. Dynamic range is also excellent, because where I used to used to bracket with the Canon G12, dont have the need to take multiple exposure shots w. the D7100. Lenses & use: Nikon 70-200 f4, which was my first before I wised up & bought a walk-around lens; Nikon 17-55 f2.8. Both were intended for outdoors, but the later does well indoors without the flash. Landscapes are my favorite topic, but have used to the 70-200 to photograph birds. 96%+ shots are with either the monopod or tripod. Always shoot in PASM to create raw files (never .JPGs) processed by DXO Optics Pro; A & M over 98% of the time. (Never tested the scene modes or auto, so dont know if they work.) Cons: Internal flash should be off to the side, not directly over the lens. OVF has an optimum MF indicator; would be nice if Live View had the same. BIG ONE is the tiny buffer, which fills fast ... shooting smaller formats such as .JPGs helps, as does 1.3 crop mode, as well as a fast memory card (e.g. Sandisk Extreme Pro). Not for everyone: Shines would you take the time & getting the settings right, but a lower resolution P&S can do better in a pinch. Recommended accessories: Sandisk Extreme Pro memory cards, extra battery, Lenspen, microfiber cloths, rocket blower, good how-to book ( Mastering the Nikon D7100 , and great lens. Regarding lenses, rent 1st to see its right for you & be prepared to return bad copies when purchasing. Bottom Line: No longer satisfied w. taking snapshots & want to do photography? Great camera to grow into.

Seeing there are already a ton of technical reviews, Ill just say that this upgrade from a Nikon D5000 was an outstanding choice for me. As a novice photographer, I really appreciate the ability to quickly change shutter, aperture, ISO, image quality, focus mode, etc using simple button/dial combinations. Its so much faster to get what I want, when I want vs. having to drill down into a menu system and losing the moment I was chasing. Its like having keyboard shortcuts for camera modes! Needless to say, the images produced are superb. You can find all the techie stuff in other reviews, but the ability to take shots instantly, re-configure the camera quickly and other options many folks wont use make this a camera a gem. An added bonus is the quick help ? that provides brief descriptions on modes / selections that arent intuitive. I feel Ill be using this camera for a long time!!

Waited a long time to save up for this camera. Finally the kit came out with the 18-140 lens combo and that was the ticket! To top it all off, I was able to time my purchase so amazon was awarding 4% cash back, giving away a camera backpack and a good 32GB sandisk SD card (not the normal generic amazon SD card) so financially it all was a blessing. As for the camera, I came from a D300. The D7100 is very much an upgrade both in image quality and in operation. Menus are intuitive, buttons are close to the D300s so that I didnt have to learn much, but there is a lot of additional functionality that just adds to the operation to make it easier to use and produce more keeper photos. Body is a little lighter and smaller than the D300 so that is actually a blessing since I dont want to lug around all that weight anymore. Everything fits great in my hands. The lens is exactly what I wanted for a walk-around lens. Covers all the focal lengths I normally use and the VRII allows me to get away with the slower apertures. (When I want to do really critical imaging in low light with faster shutter speeds, I still have my 17-55 so all is good. Highly recommended for the photo enthusiast (although with the release of the D3300, someone who can wait may want to wait until the photokina to see if Nikon releases a D7200!) Im just glad I got this for Christmas for myself so I could capture all those moments during the holiday season.

This is a noob review, and wont be helpful for experts at all. I have had my camera for about a week and I love this. I was looking for a camera that I wouldnt outgrow for years to come, and one that would satisfy my camera enthusiast husband who owns some serious film photography equipment which just isnt practical anymore. I purchased the camera with the 18-140 lens, which is a great all-around lens with mid range capabilities in zoom and macro. The camera has great functionality with special effects that you can add to pictures such as color sketch, miniature - which makes distant objects appear miniature, and selective color (for that red apple in a black and white photo), I also bought the wu-1a wireless attachment which is handy for immediate transferring of photos to my phone. I try something new on the camera every day to learn its capabilities, and expand mine. I just had to stop and write a review after what I learned how to do today. I love the instant editing capabilities of the camera. I enjoy taking pictures of birds and wildlife but will not be able to afford the telephoto zoom that I want for awhile. A little disappointed that I would not be able to get pictures of birds yet, I continued to learn every day. Well, I have uploaded two photos. The first is the photo that I actually took at full zoom with the 18-140mm lens. The second is the same photo edited on the camera. Very cool. Its a dark room in a box:) We have birds! Great camera, great quality, great functionality. My husband, who is knowledgeable unlike me, agrees.

The condition of the camera looks like new and came in the original box with a refurbish cert from Nikon. I have only taken a few pictures with it so far, but the 24 mp picture quality is far better than my D70s 6 mp. I think I may be able to print photos larger than 5x7! I bought a 28mm to 105mm zoom lens shortly before buying this camera and the combination of the two makes me very happy. When I began shooting 35mm film there was a steep learning curve, not so with the D7100. You can mount the lens on the body, turn everything to auto, and start shooting. Of course, in order to capture your vision you will have to study the 300+ page manual to be able to expertly manipulate the camera.

The Nikon D7100 is an excellent camera. I recently upgraded from a D90 to the D7100. I mainly shoot video to upload to Youtube, so I needed the flexibility of the D7100. Now I can easily add an external mic, use manual focus Ai lenses, and shoot 1080p as well. The video output from the D7100 is a huge improvement over the D90 video output; so for anyone with a camera that is 2 generations behind like the D90 you will become very happy by moving up to the D7100.

Deserves every star for the best DSLR DX-Format camera on the market! I have a full frame...advantages that no crop frame can meet, but again, best crop frame camera ever! I use glass for full frame, since I use both crop frame and full frame bodies. Paired with pro level glass, the IQ from this little camera really rocks. Detail, sharpness, color, dynamic range is incredible. ONLY areas it falls short of my full frame is that the bokeh is not quite as dreamy, not as sensitive to light and has noticeably more noise at higher ISOs...all of which is to be expected. Only thing better is the D750 or D810, for a LOT more money! Want awesome shots on a budget? Get this camera, pair it up with some really good glass...you wont be disappointed! Theres very little that this camera cant do, that its much more expensive cousins are coveted for!

My primary camera is a D800. I purchased this to replace an aging D90 that I use as my second body. No complaints with the D7100. Pictures are excellent --of course much depends on the lens. I used this mostly with the Tamron 18-270 mm VC lens for travel/touring (landscapes), family pictures, and aviation photography. I have also used it with the Nikon 10.5 Fish Eye, as well as the Nikon 12-20 mm fF4.0. Exposures are perfect and high ISO performance is excellent. The shutter is quieter than the D800. It has been a reliable performer to-date.
