I bought this body in 2014 (paid about $1,800) and about a year and a half later the shutter mechanism failed. Since it was out of warranty I had to front the $268 to repair it. So I thought, okay, the shutter count was 90,000, that seemed reasonable. While it was in for repair I thought well, I need another body so Ill just get another D610 so that I wouldnt need to buy any different type of batteries, and I already knew where all the settings were in this model. I get the new body, then I got the repaired one back and it worked fine. Im all set, right? Wrong! About 3 months later the 2nd bodys shutter mechanism also failed. This body only had a shutter count of about 9,000. NO WAY SHOULD THIS HAVE HAPPENED. Not happy! Yet, it was still under warranty so I just had to pay the shipping. I sent it in, it was repaired and I received it back. Fast forward 6 months....the shutter mechanism on the 1st repaired body FAILED AGAIN. Since NIkon only warranties their repair work for 3-6 months, I was once again facing a large repair bill! I initiated the repair work on their website and asked them if there was a known problem with this model, and instead of repairing it, should I invest in a CANON model? Not surprisingly, they didnt answer that. I followed up with a call and spoke to a representative and after pleading my case they took 20% off the repair bill. I was grateful for anything, but still shelled out about $240.00. I asked them if there were any known problems with the shutter mechanism on this model...they said no. Hmmm...... I now have 2 operating bodies, but who knows for how long?????? Other than that, I do love this camera!
