Amazing camera! This is my first DSLR and Ive found it to be very user-friendly. I started out playing with Auto but after watching a few YouTube videos, I was taking photos in Manual like a champ. The quality is very very impressive. I mainly bought this for video and I couldnt be happier with the video quality as well. I chose this over a less expensive D3400 or D3500 mainly because of the flip-out screen. Im so glad I did that because I honestly have the screen flipped out and tilted at various angles 90% of the time that Im shooting. I couldnt imagine using this with a fixed screen. It is a very expensive hobby because there are a lot more accessories that youre going to find yourself wanting. I highly recommend buying the Nikon NC filters to protect your lens, as well as the respective Nikon hood for each lens to both protect it, and help you with taking outdoor shots. This kit also doesnt include the relatively-cheap Nikon LF-4 lens cap so youll want to get one of those as well.

I purchased this camera and lens as a refurbished item. I am very satisfied with the camera and couldnt tell it from a new one. The IQ is great and the touch screen makes it easy and quick to change settings. I wasnt sure if I would like this feature or not but find myself using it frequently. My biggest complaint would be that the numbers in the viewfinder are hard to read and especially difficult in bright sunshine. I havent had this problem with other Nikon models I have had. The 18-55 lens is OK but not as good as other copies I have had. The zoom isnt smooth and the pictures arent as crisp and sharp as the copy I had with my D3300 so I dont use it much. But despite these complaints I still love the camera especially like the ergonomics of it. It is very light and fits well in my hand. A definite winner.

Ive had this camera for about a month the now. Love it. Eventually Id like a better lens but the kit lens is capable of pretty sharp shots. Im maxing out at 16 megapixels with the kit lens. After all of my research on different cameras and what would be the right starter camera for me I believe this is truly the best one for the money. All my photos are on this kit lens.

Absolutely love it so far. It is my first DSLR and love opportunities to go use it. It was fairly easy to learn all the buttons and navigate the menus/options. Love how Nikon set it up. I highly recommend the Nikon 5500 for Dummies books to learn the ins and outs of the camera. It is cheap on Kindle and written very well. Study all this up and you will really start to understand how to take some great pics. Auto/Scene mode also take great photos, but its so much fun manipulating a scene with the light you have available.

I have had time to practice with the camera and learn about the settings. I have very much enjoyed the camera so far although I have had it only a month. I like all of the features and know that over time I will better understand how to use all of them. The Wi-Fi is a great feature too. Im glad I spent so much time researching camera brands, styles and models and looked for the best pricing before making this purchase. I feel I got a good deal.

I moved from a D3100. I didnt expect to experience a material difference. I just expected a bit of a lighter weight camera. A pleasant surprise was a noticeable improvement in low light conditions. I take a lot of candid indoor photos and being able to extend the ability to take them without a flash was a pleasant surprise. I still dont remember to use the touch screen capability all the time - changing habits takes some time. One final attribute that was noticeable is faster cycle time between shots. I havent actually measured side by side with my D3100, but I clearly notice it as I take photos in rapid succession

BEWARE: I purchased a Nikon D5500 camera from PRIMESELLER that stopped working after 5 months. Nikon wouldnt honor the warranty since this was a "grey market item. Lesson learned: Do not purchase a digital camera from PRIMESELLER unless you also purchase a protection plan. Im thankful I did or Id have been out almost $700.

This is the second Nikon digital camera that I own, after having several Nikon film-based ones. While I acknowledge that my experience might be unique, I have to say I am very disappointed with these products. My first camera broke, out of the blue, despite being treated in the most cautious way. A piece inside the lens became loose and focusing (either auto or manual) was not possible anymore. Repair (now that Nikon does not allow private repair) would have been more costly than buying a new one. So I did! I bought this D5500, and Ive treated it like a baby but once again a problem has appeared with the auto-focus. For unknown reasons, the camera stopped focusing. Ive tried all remedies suggested online but unfortunately nothing worked. It is unacceptable that a product this expensive be so poorly built and last less than two years despite the care and relatively mild use (only ~ 1000 pictures in the past couple of years). Im now debating whether, after all these years, I should change to Canon or anything else. I probably will.

A truly fantastic camera! Amazing picture quality with Nikkor lenses. Great for astrophotography as well as vacation/landscape photos. Lightweight but sturdy. Wifi feature that connects to your phone sounds interesting but in practice is pretty pointless unless you forgot the cable that connects the camera to your laptop. LCD screen is sharp and bright. Battery efficiency is excellent even in near freezing weather.

I like the product and the quality but I received a gray market camera not a US camera. Be careful when buying from Amazon. I thought I was getting a US market camera but I did not. I did not notice this before it was to late to return the item. I noticed that it was a gray market camera when I purchased my first extra lens and compared the serial numbers.
