I love this camera. Its my first DSLR and I bought it because it was affordable and I was taking a photography class. Im thrilled with this camera so far, and Ive learned a lot with it. I have the two zoom lenses that came with the kit which should last me for a while. Bottom line, this camera takes EXCELLENT photos, Im extremely pleased with this purchase. Its worth every penny. Update: Ive actually now completed my photography class and I used this camera every step of the way - its a GREAT camera. Takes beautiful photos. My only complaint would be that it doesnt actually have a video mode. However, if Id done more reading, Id have found that the D3100 is the one that has the video mode, not D3000. Still, Im thrilled with this camera. Im really excited to eventually get a macro lens for it, too.

I bought this camera to give to my wife for her birthday. Shes an avid SLR hobbiest and although shes no professional, she knows and applies more than basics to her shots. I wanted to get her a camera that would allow her to do everything she knows how to do, but not be intimidating in control and features. I looked between the Nikon and Canon and eventually went with the Nikon because it had about the same features with a better price. If I was more concerned about upgradeability I probably would have purchased the Canon. The 18-55mm zoom lens is extremely versatile and the features are great. It basically shoots instantaneously when you hit the button, and the three shots per second work fantastic. Overall it has been everything we wanted in a camera, and the results speak for themselves, she has shots that look professional (she says it was all the camera). A nice bonus is that even for its size, its fairly light weight. I would reccomend this camera for any hobbiest looking for a good digital camera and you dont need video.

My previous digital camera was a Sony point-n-shoot camera that I used for almost 4 years. The camera helped me get many good photos, but close to my sons first birthday I wanted something better. Got this camera along with 55-200mm lense, and boy am I glad that I did. I have take some amazing photos and my friends and family have really liked it. I have taken some memorable photos my Son and I would have to say that, I would not be able to do that without this camera. Well, I am comparing the camera with my point-n-shoot camera, I guess point-n-shoot cameras have evolved since 2005 but DSLR with replaceable lens will help you take many good pictures. Only thing I did not like about this camera which was not a criteria when I placed this order which you should also consider is the video recording capability. The follow up version of D3000 i.e. D3100 has video recording as well. Also, Time lapse recording is missing.

When I heard that this was a great camera for starters, I was worried that it would be too basic. No need to worry, it has a lot to offer! This camera is perfect for me. Its a great size and great price. Plus, its packed with useful features. My favorite feature so far is the ability to crop and edit photos and create smaller images from within the camera menu. Im capable of doing it myself on my computer, but I get too busy sometimes. Im sick of having thousands of unedited, unusable photos on my hard drive. This way, I can choose my favorite shots and share them immediately, as well as save a few for more advanced editing if I have the time. The camera does a good job of allowing you to have a range of control. If youre looking for D-SLR picture quality with little to no effort, theres a mode for that. If you want to be in full control, theres a mode for that, too. Plus everything in between. Im very happy so far!

I received this camera as a gift. Was brand new, in box. It is so easy to learn, takes astounding quality pictures. Everyone looks beautiful behind this lens in the Profile setting. Really, I LOVE this camera. After two months of use, the flash stopped working. If the built-in flash doesnt work, you cant take any pictures because everything is overexposed and the shutter takes longer to release because its waiting on the flash to prepare. So, I contacted the company and they issued me a partial refund so I could buy a separate shoe mount flash. Once I added the extended flash (which I was planning on buying anyway), everything worked swell once again. Ive since added the use of a tripod and remote. Im pleased with the purchase, was just disappointed when the built in flash broke after only two months of use.

This is the third Nikon digital camera I have owned, and my first SLR. I have always been impressed by the quality of the Nikon brand, and this camera is no exception. Its easy to use but also comes with many more options than your standard point-and-shoot camera. I was taking amazing photos in no time at all that are of noticeably better than my old Nikon Coolpix. I use a non-glare filter with this camera and havent had any problems with it whatsoever. The biggest adjustment is getting used to using the viewfinder instead of the LCD screen to frame your photos, but I find that I really dont miss that feature all that much. The camera is also much bigger to lug around than a point-and-shoot, but thats the price you have to pay for photos that will literally blow you out of the water. I highly recommend this camera as an introduction to SLR photography.

The camera came in in great condition! I was worried since it is a used camera, but there isn’t anything wrong with it it seems. I am very very happy with this! It also came with everything that the company listed it had and was packaged very securely.

Our specific camera had a problem and seemed to frequently wrongly select the right most auto-focus point. It also had a ton of hot pixels (maybe 80?!?) in the sensor on 30 second long exposures. We had almost elected to keep it anyway (since manual selection of a single auto-focus point seemed like an ok solution), but then we tried the camera out in very low light conditions. This camera (or at least the one we had before we returned it) had terrible noise at high ISO and terrible color in low light conditions. If you will never use over ISO 400, and never take low light wide open aperture 10 second shutter exposures at night, it is probably still an excellent choice. I think ours was a rare anomaly with the weird auto-focus problem. When it picked the correct point, the subject was always in sharp focus.

I got this for my wife for Christmas and she couldnt wait to open it. Litterally. She used the excuse that she want to use it to take pictures christmas morning, but she has taken nearly a thousand pictures since it arrived last week. It is not the latest model with live view on the display, you actually have to look through the viewfinder to know what you are pointed at. This is a plus to me since the screen doesnt stay on all the time and drain the battery as quickly. The camera itself has more options than you can imagine if you have only ever had a point and shoot model. I got the Bag/DVD starter kit with it. The case holds the camera with 18-55 lense perfectly with a room for a few small items. The DVD helps you to figure out all the settings that are available. This camera does not have an internal driver (motor) to power the auto lenses so any additional lenses you purchase need to have their own drivers. This makes them a little more expensive, but at a few hundred dollars each you want to make sure you get the right piece.

Ive had this item for about 2.5 months now and I am most impressed with its quality. Very good picture quality for the money. Great for someone looking to get into DSLRs. Ive bought a couple of new lenses and both work great with the camera. The only thing I would have liked to have seen were Live Preview on the LCD and Exposure Bracketing. Both of these features could be added through the firmware, and they are present on similar models, so there really isnt a reason not to add them except to encourage people to upgrade. All in all these are minor issues and maybe Nikon will even issue a firmware update down the road to add these features. The couple of missing features aside I am very satisfied with this camera and would buy it again.
