ORIGINAL: Not happy that Canons flagship product has issues. Frequent lock ups, only solved by removing the battery. I have the EOS 1 Ds, EOS 1Ds Mk III, but this camera is the only one I have issues with. A call to Canons Service acted like I was the first to call about this issue. you can google a large amount of unresolved complaints. Canon first claimed it was my CF cards. I told them that Id use multiple CF cards with no issues in other cameras. They then they said send your camera back for repairs. Unsatisfactory and unsatisfied. UPDATED: Amazon.com replaced this camera within one day. How fantastic and unexpected customer service is that? The new camera came with the latest firmware version (I had to update the original purchase myself). It works as advertised. I raised the stars to four, may get five in the future if it does not start experiencing lock-up issues like previous camera. The features of the camera are wonderful. The low-light capability along with picture quality (when using auto-ISO) is amazing. I still like to control the ISO, but when you are under pressure to get fleeting-moment pictures under changing light conditions; the camera is hard to beat. I have too much investing in Canon glass to switch brands, in addition to learning new menus, etc... Bottom line, this is a great improvement over my EOS 1Ds Mk III in photo quality and especially FPS speed. It also shoots video. Not thrilled that it only used CF cards; whereas the other 1 Ds used both. Canons new flagship 1 D x Mk II uses CFast and CF--go figure. Happy again.

I have had this camera for about a year now. It has not failed me. I have specialized in photographing stage shows. This requires rapid fire, bouncing around stage pits, shooting on stages with weird lighting and moving fast. It is a heavy camera. I use a Cotton Carrier hand strap and the Cotton Carrier Camera System (a sort of vest holding my 1DX and my Canon 5 D.) In the past year there was one recall. I sent the camera back to Canon and they said "preventive measures have been applied. Product functions were confirmed." I did not notice any problem but Canon saw a need for preventive intervention. Im happy they are on top of these things. While expensive, the fact of its sturdy, solid build gives confidence that it will take rough wear. The complexity of the camera is demonstrated by the 2.5 inch thick print out of its manual which has recently been updated due to a firmware update. My one complaint is the lack of wireless ability. It has USB, ethernet & HDMI which I find kludgy in trying to use them. Canon is good at cameras but somewhat late at the technology table. Having said that, I would not trade in my 1Dx for any of the new wizbang cameras. If youre going to shoot where the action is, this is the camera for you.

Got the camera earlier than expected and planning to use this for my next trip. The lens are extremely sharp and offers superb contrast. I had no idea now much better contrast a really superb lens such as this one could provide. Shutter noise can be a bit loud and the camera can be bulky at times and hard to carry around, but the results make it worthwhile. Thanks!

My one and only negative comment is that this camera is heavy... but it is packed with tons of great features, and well worth the price and the extra heft. Great for action photography, landscapes, portraiture, macros... any sort of photography youre likely to want to try. Not for the point-and-shooter, but perfect for a serious photographer.

The changes in the button layout from the 1D mk iv are frustrating. Otherwise, its an amazing upgrade. And given how nice the mk iv is, Im a bit shocked. I didnt think a camera could be that much better. Lots of other people have written at length about this camera. Read their reviews if you need more details. As for me, Im happy, its a great camera with little learning curve to get used to the changes. UPDATE Ive owned it four days now, and Ive managed to take at least 800 pictures! The internet kept telling me this wasnt much of an upgrade over the 1d mk iv. I think the internet was wrong. Most things work much better on this camera. The preview image zoom is an example of something that doesnt work better; it downright sucks. Last week, before I owned this I took pictures during a play practice. In Av mode my 1D mk iv tried to make everything gray, so the black curtains at the back of the stage were hideously overexposed. Today, I took the same pictures, and this camera managed to keep the black curtains black. Magic. Overall, I was a little worried I might be disappointed in this camera. No chance of that. This is a huge upgrade.
